My favourite prof at UBC so far. His exams focus on logic, reasoning, and experimental design... nothing you can memorize, which means there?s not much to material to study for the final. The course is hard, but you can do well if you?re willing to think outside the box and actually use your brain.

The hardest prof of the 3 for this course. Easily has the most interesting section though and really requires you to think. If you're into molecular biology at all you will really enjoy this course. You may not enjoy the mark on your transcript though. This was my favourite course of undergrad and one of my worst marks.

He is one of the best in UBC. Yes his courses are hard, but you will learn a lot. Highly recommended if you are serious about research in biology. If you only care about grades, then take something else. He is only arrogant and intimidating to those who don't use their brains.

Worst class I've ever done at UBC!!! Class felt very unorganized and Brock is a very mean prof. When u ask him a question he'll make u look stupid b4 answering the question. Course material and exams don't correlate. Hard course and u juz don't know wat to expect on the exam...AVOID THIS COURSE!

Interesting course. You will learn alot. Brock just doesn't know how to write a fair exam. Material on the exam does not relate to the class. Midterm average was 50%. To correct for the low midterm Brock made the final exam worth 100%

great proff. Only for serious students, this is the course for you if you love a challenge and a teacher who will teach you not only how to solve science problems but also how to apply these analytical skills to real life. I highly recommend this proff for serious students. There is absolutely no memorizing. this course only for serious students

I have to say, for being from penticton, he definitely does not do it justice, apparently he was normal before going to oxford, but now he's super arrogant. dont take this course unless you have to. it should be called 'how to think like brock' because thats the only way to get a decent mark...terrible, doesnt teach you anything.

He's a really scary prof but he teaches well. He tells you the EXACT question on the final, gives you plenty of time to write your paper and even looks over your paper before you submit it for grading to tell you what to change. He's just intimidating

A wonderful, brilliant prof. He certainly is difficult, and makes a lot of people angry because he doesn't spoon feed you easily-memorized information, but he's great for anyone who really cares about how biology works. (Also, contrary to what someone said, he's a very accomplished scientist, with over 50 papers to his name.)

If you want an easy A, you won't get it from him. Take this course if you want to actually learn something, but be warned that it is a lot of hard work. He's the first prof to shown me how to write a proper scientific paper and analyse data (very useful skills!). However his lectures can be hard to follow and there is no text to fall back on.

Very unpleasant person. Lecture style is complete chaos;note taking is difficult. Grades writing harshly, as though he is the best writer ever. Only been published 8 times and only once is he primary author, yet believes in a rigid boring style of writing. Any sort of creative expression is frowned upon.Lectures poor, good grade requires ***kissing

The truly intelligent will do well in his class and the truly unintelligent will get a reality check. This isn't a course for memorization and regurgitation. Brock's style of teaching selects for those with a truly scientific, logical mind. And I guess that makes him a good prof.

Dr. Brock is a REALLY good prof because he really wants you to learn and succeed. Can be arrogant but I suggest talking to him in his office rather than after class. The courses themselves are rather hard and you need to put a lot of time in to do well.

definitely a tough course! he expects alot out of the students, and is moody when he doesn't get the response he wants. studying for this course is unlike studying for most post-sec course, it crazy challenges you. but all in all it pushes you to think outside the box.

One of the worst courses ever. He CLAIMS to be teaching LOGICAL THINKING but actually you end up leaning about neither developmental bio nor logical thinking. The Final is just weird. Avoid this course if possible. The lab is also annoying.
