I have taken 4 classes with Brian now and I really can't recommend him enough! He is so kind, a generous marker, very encouraging and careful with his feedback. He expects participation in class, that way he can familiarize himself with you and easily build a good relationship. He remembers everyone well and tries his best to engage with everyone.

He really is a great professor! Probably one of my favourite ones at YU! He really is passionate about history and is very inspirational. He gave us extensions for all our assignments and tests! He really cares about the students! I had this course in the winter and he will usually let us out an hour early b/c "it's cold out, we should go home"

Honestly the best and most inspiring professors I've ever had. He is extremely knowledgeable and obviously passionate about art theory and history. He is extremely generous with marking especially if you participate and appear engaged. He can be a bit quiet and wanders off on tangents occasionally, so its advisable to sit close!

Amazing Prof. Very approachable, Helpful. Assisted me a lot in essay writing and finding material. Very knowledgeable and educated. Tends to stray from topic or jump inbetween topics so pay attention and bare with him. He's sweet and makes occasional jokes, and gives a generous break although punctuality doesn't matter.

Brian is very knowledgeable about what he teaches. You don't need book/attendance to get a good grade, you just have to know a lot about the topics you will write about. It will help to attend classes before tests, he gave us all the answers beforehand. Very monotone, very boring, 30 min break each class. He's kind, and funny at times. Zzzz..

One of the best profs. I ever had. soft voice but very knowledgable, patient and understanding. Minus field trips.

Brian was easily the most knowledgeable prof I've ever had. Yes, he's very monotone, and yes it's very easy to fall asleep in his class, but if you make an effort to pay attention it's worth it. Traditional half hour breaks every class, he's funny, and seems like a really nice guy. Definitely reccomend.

He is not the most scintillating professor, but if you do choose to listen, you will find him to be extremely intelligent, kind, and even funny. Saying that, his mumbling and monotone voice causes many people to just fall asleep and they then blame the prof for their grades. An effort must be made to listen, but the effort is definitely rewarded!

Inconsistent soft and small voice. Mumbles. Boring. Briefly touches on one point then jump to another, often all over the place. If this is not a education but a regular product I purchase I would have demanded a refund.

Incredibly knowledgeable man, involved in the class in upper levels leading field trips (city tours related to class material). However his voice, it is incredibly monotone and he often trails off to a separate topic. So classes in large lecture halls or early morning classes are a challenge with him

Brian definitely knows his history and does provide helpful info not stated in the text book. However, it can be very hard to hear him sometimes as he mumbles his words and tends to confuse one. He often touches on one point and then begins to ramble on to something else and before you know you are lost and wondering what he said.

Brian is very knowledgeable in his area of expertise. Sit close to him if you want to be genuinely engaged in the class because he has a tendency to mumble. After getting used to his teaching style, I ended up really enjoying the course. He walks you through all necessary information and prepares you thoroughly for tests. very nice as a person too.

I took one course with him in first year, and that has still been the best course I've taken in three years. Sitting through his lectures is like reading an encyclopedia- you get way more than you bargained for. He knows everything, and if you can keep up, they're the most rewarding lectures you can take in York's Art History program.

He's very smart, however goes through slides too quickly makeing it hard to jot down notes. I suggest a laptop instead of notebook, its quicker. Also prepare for LOTS of memorizing. He makes it very dry and boring most of the time but he can be interesting.

I am currently taking his Modern Art Lecture and I have to say, I've always found Art history to be a bore and this prof does not make it any better. He knows his stuff, but he does not convey the subject matter in a captivating way. A bit old to be hot. Love the half hour breaks. Wish he'd put the course online.
