Dr. Corey is one of a handful of teachers that I consider the best I've ever had. I loved the back and forth between student and teacher about various ideas that were presented. Dr. Corey really got me to think. With all the drudgery and banalities of so many teachers it was a joy to want to come to class and learn through participation.

Pros: Deep learning from an expert; Valerie, an inspiring assistant; wide-spanning instruction from an insider. Cons: overboard with personal stories; 150 question final; esoteric grading of the two-page weekly paper. A huge commitment is needed. A good grade here will likely guarantee grad school. Not a horror story at all. Rise to the occasion!

Dr. Corey is a legend, however, he is just not a good teacher. The course is 90% self-taught, with an ENORMOUS amount of material and busy work. One test, final, 150 questions on all the material in the book. He has a heart of gold, but just gets lost in his stories. If you want a hard, experiential class, this is it.

He is awesome! You will work in this class and he does not hand out grades...they need to be earned. He is very helpful, insightful, and holds a world of knowledge. I love his honest answers and approaches to counseling. The person that did not know what the hoopla was about...obviously did not appreciate the person in front of them!

Open to discussions during class which was nice. He requires a 20 page paper, which is no joke! His tests are difficult as well. On the first test the class average was approx. 60 something percent & he refused to grade us on a curve. Quizzes in the chapter help alot. His videos are pretty generic and he has high expectations for his students

Very cool guy but if you're going to take his class be ready to EARN your grade. Reading the book and attendance are mandatory and tests are pretty hard. However, if you take his class and pass it you earn some bragging rights.

He was a great professor. I studied him before I took his class. He has a great dvd called "Groups in Action". I really connected with this professor more than most. Anyone here have his university email?

VERY anal! He's a great reference so be sure to speak up, ask questions, go to every class, be on time, and open up in small group. He notices every little thing you do. Don't freak out. It's not as hard as everyone makes it out to be.

I honestly don't know what all the hooplah was about. I was miserable the whole semester - the ridiculous amoung of busy work reminded me of high school and much of the time he was more interested in hearing his own voice than the students' (as if authoring the book wasn't enough ego-kick). He knows his stuff, but he's just not a great teacher.

Just take him! It's hard, but a class that you will learn so much from. I got a C but it was worth it. I worked hard and I did it. It's true, you will have bragging rights forever!

The only prof to give me a C. I'm a college prof now and a licensed psychotherapist. Thanks to my experience with him I'm a better person but I still hate that C. He is worth taking and it gives you bragging rights later with others.

World famous in the Counseling field and a pleasure to learn from. Lots of reading and papers, including a difficult 200 question final. A great class for serious counseling/HUSR students! Currently teaches part time in the Fall semesters only.

Never took Dr. Corey but is the guru of Human Services. He writes most of the books for the Human Services . Nice man but is notorius for giving 100 questions finals and midterms. If you want a challenge and want to learn something from him, take Corey.
