David Lustgarten was the greatest design professor I have ever had. He is a wealth of knowledge and just an all around great guy. He doesn't teach senior level classes anymore, but I would go out of my way to take a course he was teaching. Would recommend to anyone passionate about pursuing a career in design.

David is an amazing teacher! I have learned so so much in his classes - especially graphic design history. He is super helpful and friendly, very willing to work one on one with students to figure out what works for them. Would recommend to anyone!

Old time designer. Seems to be a well respected guy overall; knows more than anyone I've met about design theory/history, and is very helpful when needed. However, is clueless with anything regarding the web. In fact, he barely acknowledges its existence, not that Champlain is at all concerned with webdesign, despite what their literature may say.

High expectations, but in the end a very easy grader. I handed in some lousy projects and never got lower than a B on anything. Super nice, more than willing to come in early or stay late to help you out. Gives lots of real life advice that's helped me a lot in my freelance career. Great guy, highly recommended for MMG majors.

For senior level classes, Seminar and Portfolio, they were WAY too easy. He has an amazing amount of knowledge of theory and design, but is very behind in contemporary implementation of the use of design (esp in web, video) He is very good with print, but with changing mediums, limitations and usability are much different to teach.

I've had Prof. Lustgarden as a teacher several times and have always been blown away by his knowledge. Great teacher, nice guy. Can be a tough grader and pick favorites, but as long as you pay attention and do your best you should be fine.

Really great if you are serious about Graphic Design especially print design for a career. Knows a lot but very specific on what he wants...but you know so are clients in the REAL world so his classes are great to take to get ready for a career.

He is an amazing guy. not only is he amazing at what he does but he truly cares about his students as people too...met with me on an issue unrelated to the class and was very concerned and appropriate towards the issue. Though i have changed majors, i still see him around campus he still knows me by name, and always says hi, values his students.

He IS very educated, has a ton of art history knowledge, VERY BAUHAUS. he does lack the ability to distribute his time to all of his students...is quite a flirt and always takes favorites. perfectionist isn't even the word, more like he wants it to be HIS design, as if he's taken your work and pirated it. :[
