Prof. Karstens is exactly as described by the other ratings. She explains concepts with clarity, and in a way I can understand the first go around. She has amazing energy, and she is always smiling and she adds funny personal anecdotes with her lectures. Her assessments are very strait forward, and HW is often optional.

Professor Karstens is the first math teacher I've had who's been able to explain material in a way I can understand! She cares about all of her students and is accessible outside of class. She's very passionate about the subject matter, and made an early morning calculus class something I could look forwards to!

I'm writing another review because I just absolutely love Karla. Before I took Math019 and 020 with her, I absolutely hated math. She is hands down the best math teacher I have ever had. I looked forward to her classes every time. Her lectures make sense and she's enthusiastic about what she teaches. 10/10 would recommend.

This course is well-structured and very beneficial. My class loved Karla and genuinely enjoyed being there. Biggest downside by far is the textbook, which was entirely unnecessary if you don't need extra help and very expensive.

Karla Karstens is truly the gem of UVM. Her calculus lectures are the class that I look forward to - she is very interactive with her students, funny, and super personable. She truly tries her best to make the work as understandable and easy as possible, and is always happy to meet outside of class. I wish I could take a class w her every semester!

By far it was my favorite class just because of Professor Karstens. She not only had a wonderful personality and was always had such a bubbly personality and was ready to tell about her favorite football teams or the musical she was going to see. She also gave us candy!

By far the best math teacher I have ever had. Her style of teaching is easy to follow and she never fails to make it interesting. She uses "MathLab" which might seem annoying, but was very helpful. She always does test reviews before the test which helped a lot. The only downside was how much tests impacted your grade. One bad test can hurt.

I absolutely loved Karla's class! I fell a little bit behind on my midterm with her, but I met during office hours and she was so helpful with going over material and understanding what went wrong. She is so fun in lecture and made me love calculus. I wish I could take every class with her.

I loved Karla! The only downside is that she is a Vikings fan, and is very open about it. All of her lectures were extremely straight forward and were accessible online after the class. She has the sweetest personality and tries to incorporate humor when she can tell the class energy is low. I loved her so much that I'm taking Math020 with her too!

Karla is AMAZING. There is a quiz each Wednesday and online homework for each section, which really helps solidify the material. The exams are extremely fair. Though attendance is not mandatory and she posts her notes online, attending is helpful in understanding and lecture with her is always fun. If you can take her class take it, you'll succeed

Karla is amazing. She is great at teaching material and making sure everyone can understand and follow along. Online homework is assigned almost every week. Also there are quizzes every Wednesday and a few tests. She posts her notes online so you have access to material if needed. She does not take attendance but you will never regret attending.

Professor Karstens is amazing. Attendance is not mandatory but you will always want to go. She makes Calculus interesting and truly cares about her students. She gives out free candy and pauses lessons to tell personal stories related to the material. Highly recommend!

Karla is a great professor and person! A few people had told me that her class was awful, but I have found it to be one of the best! I am not good at math at all, but she is always willing to help me in and outside of class. She is also always good at describing things in a way that makes sense if something isn't clicking. One of my favorite profs!

Karla is a good teacher and her class is engaging. It is not hard to do well, there is basically no homework unless you do optional "practice" and the tests and quizzes are short and identical to, if not easier than, the review. She wrote the textbook and while it's good, its just not necessary for the class at all, don't buy it.

I had to retake this class because the first time I took it I had a gradstudent as a professor, but with Karla I ended up with a 95 in the class. The quizzes can be a bit difficult, but the tests are all about making sure you understand the material. She's awesome, I would definitely recommend!

Karla is one of the best professors I have had. She is so funny and explains math in such a good way that anyone can understand. She just wants her students to understand the material. Please take Karla's class!! The one con is sometimes she doesn't understand SAS requirements. However, a respectful email can clear that up!

Professor Karstens is very friendly and loves to talk. She is easily distracted, but she does a good job at teaching calculus. Her tests and quizzes are fairly easy as long as you pay attention in class. She was very accommodating when I asked to take a quiz very early one morning so I could make my Thanksgiving train ride home! Highly recommend!

Karstens was a great professor. Calculus is very hard but she made it clear and her test are very straight forward, if you understand the material well you will do well. She is easy to meet with outside of class and really wants you to do well. She does make some stupid jokes but she's good at teaching math and is a fun person.
