Howard is a good professor. he wants you to succeed. He cares deeply about teaching philosophy and pedagogies of place. He isn't too hard a grader. During lectures he typically has you read articles beforehand and then conducts group discussions.

Howard is a caring, funny, and fascinating person. I wish I could give him a higher rating, but the class content was not compelling. I don't ever skip classes but I made an exception for this one. Most of the content was a review of the reasons I want to be a teacher. If you take this class, do it for Howard's personality, not the content.

We didn't really accomplish anything in this class. I was also frustrated by the prof's sharing of his political viewpoints during the class. Class discussions were sometimes meaningful, but I didn't come away with anything useful.

Comment:
Howard is a fun person, but this was a very boring class. The readings were fairly interesting, and we had some meaningful discussions as a group, but I didn't get anything at all out of the class. It was a lot of talking about what we should do without saying how we should do it.

Comment:
Interesting to listen to, engaging, and keeps you listening. However, left-leaning bias comes forth often. Brings in guest speakers from 'peace' organizations or with questionable backgrounds ie: a person arrested for extremist protesting during an international summit. Critiques use of doublespeak by govt, but uses it himself.

An interesting man with interesting beliefs. He will freak out and yell in class when people ask questions. He then tries to encourage discussion but everyone is afraid to open their mouths. If you want to hear a real rant ask him about the syncrotron.

Excellent. Inspires critical thinking on a global scale. Questions everyone's comments and beliefs. Unique, fun teaching style that allows for alot of open discussion which seems off the topic but somehow manages to end up relating to the topic. Highly recommended!

He is a great guy and his marking is fair, however the class itself doesn't help you to become a better teacher. I don't see how anyway.
