Do not take GES 104, unless you can memorize 200 places on a map. He is brilliant in his field.

Dr. Schmidt has somewhat radically conservative perspectives on issues relating to the discipline. While some may not necessarily agree with his beliefs, his philosophy toward education and his teaching methods, I can say that it was nice having a professor to offer some alternative perspectives to major issues in the discipline.

Worst class I have ever taken. Most periods consisted of watching videos, most of which had nothing to do with the course topic, which is really disappointing when you are paying time and money for something you could easily watch online at home. Lectures were rambling speeches that were tangentially related to course materials. Stay away!!

Dr. Schmidt is a nice fellow, has a well developed sense of humor, and is even a bit whacky in lecture, but he's likeable. He is understanding to a point, as long as you manage to show him you are doing the work and trying to improve your writing, he'll keep working with you to improve. understands not all students in same starting place.

Absolutely loved the teacher! He is super good. He gives out a study guide that's just like the test but the tests are still not super easy because hes a hard grader. He really loves and is passionate about this subject and you can tell in his lectures. The whole class is lecture and you have to attend. But there is little homework.

I've had Dr. Schmidt for several courses, and although I probably got a C each time, I kept going back for more. Courses that were writing intensive were seriously challenging, which I believe is a good thing if you want to learn stuff. Also, Dr. Schmidt always had an interesting story to tell during class.

I feel like I never learned a thing in his class quite honestly. His exams are just memorization of the study guides mainly and map work were overwhelming on the exams. I just memorized the study guide in order to pass. Schmidt really didn't teach anything. He remained off topic during lecture. Memorize study guides in order to pass this class.

Terrible professor! I have been in this class for just over 2 months and we have used the textbook in class probably about three times. His tests are extremely basic and his teaching consists of sitting at his desk preaching the same thing for the whole semester. If given the opportunity to reschedule my classes i would not choose this class at all

What is wrong with these people? His class was absolutely terrible. So boring and pointless. I learned absolutely nothing about how to become a better writer. His tests are awful. He'll ask questions like "What is the name of your book?" or "How many bullet points were on page 5?" What kind of a test is that? Complete waste of time and money. Ugh.

There are no assignments, only tests.Basically, this class could be an internet class. Its just reading chapters and filling out maps...But it is extremely easy if you are the type to learn from a book instead of a teacher.

The BEST professor ever. If you want to learn something outside the BOX take him. He might be old, but with age comes WISDOM. He will push you to consider both sides of the story before a stand is taken.

It should be a high quality course, but in my opinion it was wasting of time and money!I think it was heroic to endure because the class was boring to the core. The fact is that we did nothing during the entire semester. His low standards allow a student with ave. attendance and poor quality papers written over night get an honors credit and an A !

Okay, this guy puzzles me. He is very nice and all that, but he should be, in all honesty, retired and chilling some place warm. The class was boring at its best, he kept mumbling about I don't know what the whole time. The worst class I ever took. I didn't learn anything. But, hey, at least I got this ridiculous requirement out of the way!

He is wise and very knowledgable of course because he has seen and studied everything. Class is simple. If you're serious about Geography, you're in the right place with him teaching. If you're there just to get credit, you're also in the right place. Just a great classical-style professor.

I dont know what people are talking about here! Dr Schmidt is awesome. He gives you the answers to the exams in research and tells you what to study for geo. As for the prejudice: the man lived in Africa for 20 yrs so of course he is not gonna tolerate some AMERICAN doing a paper on Africa and debating what is going on down there!!!
