Comment:
Ron is an excellent lecturer and explains complicated concepts well. Even if you're not a cognitive neuro buff, you can do well in this class by showing up prepared and reading the articles thoroughly. Presentation was marked generously imo, which was great! Final paper was hard because it consisted of over 20 articles but overall 8/10 class.

Borowsky is clearly very knowledgable in his field, and listening to him lecture was enjoyable. The format of the course was not ideal though. There are fill in the blank slides, and I found that I spent half the class filling in the blanks and not retaining what he's saying. the term paper was not difficult, but it was tedious.

Very nice and does well to explain the simple concepts before going into further detail; I have found other professors expect you to figure out the basics He was easily accessible outside of class and was very interesting to listen to. I enjoyed the content because he was funny and endearing with his enthusiasm.

I specifically made this account to warn how bad this class is simply because the marking is an absolute horror story. The TA does an atrocious and inaccurate job, complain if you are even slightly concerned. The midterm is easy if you study, the final is harder. Take this class if you enjoy having to deal with grades after you've gotten them.

If you're thinking about taking this class... DON'T. He spends only a little bit of the lecture going over information that you need to know for exams, then he just talks about all the studies he does. His notes suck, so you need the textbook. For the essay portion he is vague w/ what he wants and his grad student marks tough w/ almost no feedback.

There is no dispute over Dr. Borowkys knowledge and capabilities within the field of psychology, he knows his stuff. However, in lecture he tends to fly through the notes (which actually pertain to your exams) and spends the rest of class talking about his lab (which holds no importance to your exams) don't take this class if you want a good grade.

The MC on his exams are focused from the text and the short answer questions are based from his notes. He uploads semi filled notes before class, so attending class is a must to get all the notes. His exams are super tough, so definitely study the material. Overall, Ron's lectures were interesting but you definitely had to work hard to do good.

Prof. Borowsky has done tons of research in neuroimaging of language and cognition, so he was really able to explain the method stuff that this seminar was about.

I learned so much about stats from this course...especially the 9 spss assignments which are thoroughly demoed. Ron's great at answering questions, and really tries to make sure you understand the connections between all the stats.. Despite the dry nature of the topic, he really made it interesting, understandable, and sometimes funny ("OMNIBUS"!!)

You really do need to go over the notes a few times and think about the material to understand it. Both midterms were easy and fairly predictable, but the final had a few things that students were not expecting. It's hard to know what you're supposed to know from the textbook.

While I may have rated him very poorly for statistics (see below), his teaching style was perfect for a class like the Psychology of Language. He loves his topic, and makes it clear. The textbook is also very helpful. I would highly recommend taking this course from him.

This class was ridiculous. His teaching style (fill in the blank notes from a powerpoint) should not be seen anywhere near a statistics class. While Sarty would work through example questions on the board, Borowsky did NONE of that. It was straight theory, and if you wanted to know more, you had to teach it to yourself. Would not recommend.

Ooooh dear... this is a guy that knows Stats TOO well to teach. He doesn't explain anything at an undergrad level.. he just assumes everyone knows what is going on in his mind.. and make it more difficult to keep himself interested in the material. The textbooks useless, and he is too. I spent hours on the internet looking for better explanations

I miss Sarty - at least he SHOWED YOU how to do things. This guy talks... and talks... and talks... Powerpoint should NEVER be the format for stats classes!

Does not understand crucial statistical concepts. Most of the class will be based on reading SPSS outputs but not understanding what they mean. Take stats from someone else.

Made stats easier to understand. Uses theory development more than actual math skills, which definitely helped me pass. He is very knowledgeable, but every now and then he talks about stuff that is totally over most of our heads. His voice has a tendency to drag on, and sometimes I find myself waking up in his class. Overall, much better than Sarty

Definitely has a different approach than Sarty. Helps you to understand the basic concepts. Tests, I found at least, to be pretty easy. He goes over things a lot to make sure you understand. I really liked him.
