Comment:
Professor Fermann is a good and knowledgeable professor, but this class is just too much work for a gen Ed. However, I must say that I barely watched the lecture videos and somehow Im passing with an A. Navigating through the powerpoints was enough for me to make guesses. So I guess this class is doable, but I would look elsewhere for a PSgen Ed.

I do not recommend this class. Ridiculously tough for a gen ed course. Fermann's friendly but he does not realize that most people taking this class are doing it to fill out a gen ed requirement.

I 100% regret taking this class. Tests were unnecessarily hard for a gen ed course. Fermann treats the class like it is an honors level chemistry course. He's a genuinely nice guy but the class is not worth taking. Please do not take this class if you would like to preserve your sanity. Find another Physical Science credit course.

Lots of homework and the exam questions were nothing like we learned in class. Lectures are confusing and he's not very entertaining.

Like others have said already, this class did not transfer to the online format well at all. I honestly feel like the lectures should have been synchronous as there was no reason to go at all. Wait until its in person.

TBH I expected to fail, but he doesn't like to fail people. He's cool guy and he really wants you to succeed but this online school thing went HORRIBLY for this class. It was really hard to follow what was happening and OWL was infuriating (as per usual). As a non sciencey person I wanted to die. There r probs better options for the PS gen ed

This class did not translate well to the online format. I was excited to take this class but was stressed by the number of random assignments. Too much to keep track of each week between discussion, OWL homework, Hmwk Submissions, Tests, project checkpoints, long lecture videos, etc. Just save the hassle and wait until it's in person

I was excited to take this class but it doesn't fit the online format well. The prof is well intentioned but it's very confusing, lectures are asynchronous, and there are too many homework assignments to keep up with. Not an easy A or easy Gen Ed. Nothing against Prof Fermann but I recommend waiting to take this in person.

Science of Crafteasy A. Lectures are all recorded and if you want to show up, and most of the time you don't have to. 4 Exams are 50% group and 50% individual not cumulative. Final project is super easy. Homework isn't hard, just don't forget about it. A lot of extra credit offered. Ask him to change a grade and he will. Most sports teams take it

He is a nice professor and class is always interesting. However he only demonstrates experiments and never actually explains the material. The tests are not based on the book and you just have to know what he's talking about right off the bat. He is very confusing and tests are EXTREMELY hard and difficult to pass. He does not give partial credit.

Fermann can best be described as chaotic. I never knew what was happening in class because he would go off on tangents and talk about chemistry in a way that was above everyone's head. But the exams are just like the owl homework and he gives a practice test so the class is manageable. He is very caring and understanding but he just can't teach.

I rarely attended class because it was an 8:30 AM class. At the end of the semester he really helped out by dropping bad grades, and his office hours were very helpful as well. The classes I attended were interesting and he has great humor.

DO NOT TAKE GEN CHEM WITH FERMAN!!! He is traditionally an honors professor where he should stay! During lecture, he goes off on tangents and does demonstrations that are unrelated to the topics. He unexpectedly assigns OWLs with no notice and not enough time to complete them. Be prepared to teach yourself from the book.

This may be because I wasn't in Honors when I took this class, but this guy has never taught a general chemistry course before and it shows. Everyone is teaching themselves, because whatever he mentions in class doesn't connect to the homework. I only showed up for the clickers. Wish he would dumb it down and start from the beginning.

If you're going to take an 8 AM take 121H with Ferman, but you do actually have to go to class to pass. While I felt lost at 75% of the lectures, I left each class feeling like I had learned and that I had just done something worthwhile. The take home exam took me 15 hours, but the other exams were very similar in difficulty to the homework.

Prof. Fermann is the best choice for honors chem. He really cares about you and tries to explain everything in a deeper level to make sure you really understand the material and phenomena behind the basics of chemistry. He likes the physical/math side of things and teaches that way the most but he will always try to help your grade whenever he can.

Comment:
Justin seriously was amazing. I took his chem 101 science of craft class and it was great. He was nice and funny and made an 8:30 lecture not as bad as it should have been. It was hard to do poorly on his tests because it was a 50/50 test where you take it individually and then with a group and he averages it to get your grade.
