Politics class was very hard. He had two midterms, which were all written essays in response to his questions. His assigned readings are challenging, and he gives pop quizzes along with forcing students to submit responses to him on the reading. Participation is crucial, but you need to be prepared to answer on the spot. Doesn't believe in 100's.

I have had Professor Franz for intro to politics and his upper level democratic theory class. I absolutely love Franz. He's a great professor, always accessible, wants you to learn succeed and engage. If you aren't going to participate you may struggle but he does a great job of being engaging to make that easier. I'm taking him next semester!

I would recommend Franz. He is very knowledgeable about the material discussed. The class is lecture heavy and note-taking is very important. There is usually a pop quiz at the beginning of the class, but he sometimes skips this for whatever reason. Two midterms that are writing based and taken in class and a MC and short answer final.

Not bad. Nice guy who does care about all his students and is willing to help. He is hard and his class even the 101 can be really stressful. His essay tests are hard and he does not grade easy. Plus reading quizzes a lot. Wouldnt take again and might not recommend. it is not bad thing if u have him, but there might be better options

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW: He will challenge you (and probably intimidate you at first) He will conduct REALLY interesting classes with engaging lectures that make you think You will NOT fall asleep in his class - but if you want to pass you'll have to actually study for the quizzes and especially the midterms/final. Had him first semester freshman year

Early on he assigns fairly lengthy readings (20 pgs) and then has a pop quiz (every class) on one sentence. (The readings do get shorter!) While this sounds contradicting, this guy is literally the best! He is very passionate about what he teaches and clearly lists out the answers to tests beforehand. It is easy to do well if the work is put in.

Avoid taking him if you can. He literally tells students he's mean and scary on purpose. Pop quizzes and essay tests are very difficult. I'm a senior and I felt like I was barely passing an intro level course. Told me to come to class even when I was sick. He has his opinions and won't change them. DON'T TAKE HIM!

Dr. Franz is a great prof, especially for your first politics class. Tries to get people involved in discussion, pretty fast paced so don't zone out. Pop quizzes on readings but those are the easy points if you read! He really takes improvement throughout the course into account.

Franz is an amazing professor who really knows how to get his students to participate and enjoy his class. He is engaging and wants to help you succeed. However, the readings are tough and he gives pop quizzes throughout the semester based only on comprehension. The midterms and final are tough, but not unmanageable.

Do the reading. A good chunk of your grade is on quizzes on the reading. Tests aren't too bad, essays for two and MC for the final. Just study the night before your notes from class and the quizzes and you will be fine. He's a great guy, great sense of humor.

Overall I LOVED his class. Participation is VERY important. He encourages students to raise their hands or speak at least once a week, which is why he may ignore those that speak a lot. Offers two midterms, pop quizzes (extra credit type of deal, don't affect your grade), final MC exam. Go to his office hours if you have questions!!!

I strongly dislike Franz and his teaching style. He encourages participation, but he won't acknowledge you if you raise your hand after the first time, whether it is to respond to a question he poses or just a clarification. If he assigns reading, you can expect a pop quiz. He seems like he is indifferent when it comes to his student's success.

Franz is wild. He talks so quickly and excitedly it's hard to keep up with him. Goes on total tangents in class that have no relevance to the content on the exams. Pop Quizzes almost every other day on one specific paragraph of readings that are typically 40/50+ pages.

Very eloquent and enticing. I was never really bored in his class. Especially when we got to talking about Machiavelli! His in-class essay exams are pretty difficult and he can be a tough grader. However, you feel very accomplished and proud if you do well in his class. It's definitely possible that you will. You just need to take the time. Takehim

Dr Franz is one of the best professors I had this year. He's very clear about what he wants and gives test questions out a few days before the test. He's a fair grader but you really have to write something special to get a high A. Overall hes a great teacher and is interesting to listen to, I'd recommend taking his class

Best teacher ever. He is very interesting and always answers any questions you have. He goes though all the material and makes sure you understand it before he moves on. Quizzes are easy. Tests can be difficult if you do not prepare, but he gives you the essay questions ahead of time, and there is plenty of time to prepare your agreement.

Franz is the best professor i've had at loyola and I am a senior. I've taken his courses multiple times and found each of them to be challenging. He is not easy but if you do all the reading, show up ready to discuss and are not a complete idiot you can't do poorly. Take him if you want to improve yourself.

Franz is the best professor at Loyola! His class makes you think and is very interactive. You have to be willing to do the readings (sometimes twice), participate, and analyze the texts (all good selections) and you will learn a lot. He is intelligent, interesting, witty, and knows how to push his students. I can't wait to take more of his classes!

Love love loveeee Franzie, he makes you think, which some people aren't good at so dont take him if you are looking to fly by with your head in the clouds. Though his almost daily quizzes were challenging but made me do the reading. I recommend him if you're truly interested in Poli. Sci.
