I didn't feel that any of his books assigned had anything to do with the subject even though he thought it did. His stories were entertaining but I don't feel that I learned anything of any importance.

Loved his teaching syle and personality. He keeps the class fun while still teaching. He isn't for everyone though. He's the kind of guy you either love or hate. Luckily I loved him.

He's not for everyone. I hear a lot of mixed reviews. He's not a strait forward sort of guy and often is hard to follow but if you listen to his stories you can pick out the gist of what he wants you to know. His class wasn't for me but you might like his style.

Class is interesting more often than not, and getting a good grade can be done with relatively little effort. The readings are often dull and tedious, but on other occasions they're very helpful. Every now and then, he'll say something awesome, such as a joke about President Bush.

I agree with the other post that the books were not that good particularly "Uneqal Childhoods" which what little viable information could have been boiled down into a much smaller book. The naration rambled on and on and on. However, I do believe the Professor Mark's class was interesting and educational, he is a good teacher.

I don't agree with his choice of books to read and disagree that they were representative of micro/sociology. Kuckoos Nest was fiction & though entertaining was not very scientific or objective, Women Without class was long winded and was just a long story about a high school clicks. The class lacked a central text book, structure, and definition

Are you kidding me? He is the best prof. I've ever had! If you don't think he is brilliant, insightful, clear, helpful, articulate, or understanding then perhaps you need to rethink why you are even taking college classes. Seriously, he knows what he's doing.

He's an OK guy, he's nice, seems slow, but a lot of students have a harsh opinion of him. I think its because students at The University of Maine are extra rude, vulgar, and bullyish. If I could switch colleges I would. UMaine has some pretty rude stuck up catty people here. It's the most rude place I've ever been. Don't come to Maine! :(

Grading seemed arbitrary to many in the class. Marks doesn't really listen to students and isn't very helpful outside of class. The assignments are rather blah as well.

I do not understand how anyone could rate this professor with a smiley face. he was a terrible teacher, changed not only the sylibus, but also changed the weight of grades at the end of the semester. classes not worth going to at all. a big waste of money! I will never take a class with him again!

Marks constantly changes the course, is incoherent in his lectures yet likes to talk. This is my second class with him and his views are often bias. He is dismissive of students views when they conflict with his own and is a wishy-washy grader. I would suggest avoiding him if possible. Can’t write.

He's a super nice guy, but he was kind of hard to understand. The material of the course was interesting, as was most of the reading, but it often took hime a while to get to the point in lectures.

Excellent Professor. Interesting lectures, easy to take notes from. Exam study guides really helped. Be warned though, a lot of reading, not all of which he covers in class, but you're still responsible for on exams. Attendence can also be a killer, grade drops after 3 absences
