Dr. Lux is good teacher. Would recommend taking his class. He provides much test preparation and a great atmosphere. Ask him about the non-talking environmental earth science class at Kent State. Too funny

Daniel Lux was one of my favorite professors. If you ask for help, he'll be there and give 110% to make you succeed. Very funny guy and he's very passionate about the material he teaches! If you like motorcycles, Football, the Ohio State Buckeyes, Geology, or need a lab science and avoided BIO100 like the plague (like me), I highly recommend him!

The actual class sucks. It is very boring (maybe not to everyone) and hard to focus. But I love professor Lux. He is funny and nice! And passionate about the subject. He also offers help if you ask. The labs suck too, but they actually are very helpful. They wrap up what you have learned in lecture. THIS A GOOD LAB SCIENCE TO TAKE!

An A is not impossible, but needs a bit more studying as it is a 4 credit course. Professor is extremely helpful. Study regularly and you'll get a nice grade.

Lectures are worth attending. He goes kind of fast because there is a lot of material (easy material tho) to cover. He emphasizes key tops that will be on the test. Since there is a lot of material, you will do well if you go to class and put in time studying. The labs are easy compared to other labs I have had (chemistry, physics, ...)

He is a good guy. He cares about his students. He comes of on the first day harsh but he really is not at all. His labs can be tough due to the TAs but he is more then willing to help. He also gives a bonus field trip worth like 10 points so its worth it.

It is totally possible to get an A in this class. Attend class, take notes, and go to the review sessions! Dr. Lux really emphasizes concepts that will be on the test and has been the least dry earth science professor I have had at UMaine. Bottom line, put a little effort in and you will do very well in this class.

It's hard for me to rate this class. Lux is a super nice guy and really trys hard to inspire his students. His lectures are REALLY dry. If you are taking this class to fulfill a science credit then don't take this class.. He is not clear at all during lecture, and does not know how to engage a lecture of 100+. Lab is pointless and a joke.

-Lab matches what you learn In lecture -prepares you for upper levels of ERS -exams are straight forward -offers a review section before each exam where almost every exam question is talked about -follows the book well -makes lots of gneiss jokes -super friendly and always at his office hours

Very helpful! Seems to actually care about students, even though the class is huge! Does a lot to give hints about tests. Book is not necessary, although a good idea, especially for chapter reviews.

Exams are super difficult! He is a nice guy, but sometimes makes things up as he goes and does not answer questions clearly. USE the BOOK. He does not give out study guides or practice exams.

Dr. Lux is awesome. He is very funny and clearly knows so much about his subject. He is a people person and therefore knows how to stay engaging and help people out. His lectures and powerpoints are very helpful in that if you take down all the bulleted lists and points and make sure you understand them completely, you will ace the tests!

He is SO boring! He doesn't really try to make lectures interesting, and often doesn't know what will show up on the next slide. He will readily admit that he hasn't looked at his lecture notes in two years. Lame.

Tests were horrible. Average on the first was 61, and on the second, 62. He gives random quizzes to bring up the horrible test scores, which is the only reason I went to his class. Only a few A's out of a lot of students. Take this course with another professor, there are much easier professors that teach it!!!

He is so dumb, he doesn't know what he is talking about, and the class is so frustrating to sit through because it takes him forever to get to the point. He doesn't even recognize slides that he put together! The labs are also awful, the TAs are clueless!

Show up to class, he loves pop-quizzes as a means of taking attendance. He likes it when students put work in, visit during office hours, and go to class, you'll do fine.
