Took Hurst more than once, here's the basics: teach yourself primarily from the textbook and you don't need class. He is a glorified proctor. His examples are exactly from the text. I've known a lot of people who cheat; don't. Cheating will hurt you in the long run. It is better to have a C you earned than an A you didn't. He is bitter. Good luck.

The "lectures" are pre recorded googledrive videos where he does not solve the problems live but simply shows the slides with the problem completed. I felt like he made the course & math harder than it was. The homework is useless & don't waste money buying the book. Overall not a good class. No teaching involved, just watching a garbage video.

Exams are pretty straightforward. Go review the exams with him after and he makes it look easy because they are. Look at the HW he assigns and practice that. He gives you a solid understanding of Physics but does not go through enough examples in class. Ask him after class for more. Curves grades. I thank those who did not attend lecture or study.

Did not teach a single thing. Instead sent so many notes on each section of the physics chapters. Tests were not cumulative and the lowest score is dropped. I took this class during COVID and it did not require Lock Down browser which was nice. But I would not recommend Hurst. At all.

Professor Hurst is one of the worst professors I have ever had, and I have been in college for four years. He does not work through problems in class and instead reads the textbook word-to-word. When you ask him to explain problems more he simply says the same thing again and refuses to putt any effort into helping his students understand.

Heard among a handful from within the physics department that he has a degree in geoscience and knows little about physics. Now you know why most people think he sucks at teaching. Let that sink in for a bit before you consider picking him.

Hurst is not as bad as everyone says, albeit, he is far from my favorite professor. He simply has a different teaching style. Most in class examples are from the textbook, but the ones that are not tend to be on the exams. He allows pictures in class, so take them & study those examples. His exams are a few too many questions for the given time.

He reads from the book and shows examples that are already worked out (from the book). He never does a problem in person. His exams have a lot of concept based questions, so don't focus on just numbers. I tried to give Hurst many chances, but everything he did bothered me. He gives his personal opinion too much, too.

Definitely the hardest class Ive taken yet, and for no reason. I scored in the top 5% for three out of the five exams. I even got the top score on one of them. After attending all the lectures, doing all the homework, and reading the textbook, this B+ feels like a shot in the face. He isnt a bad guy, but he makes the test/class stupid difficult.

This is the worst professor at UNLV. He hates teaching and his life so he wants to make your life miserable. His lectures are useless because he doesn't solve any problems. The homework Problems don't help with the exams...... Also, he has no office hours. Hust is a sad old f*k who needs to retire.

Avoid him if possible, but he's usually the only guy teaching 151 at UNLV. Consider dual enrolling at CSN. They have so much better professors there. This guy's class average is a 50-60% & whines to the class about being all slackers, even when you attended tutoring and everything. As of now, he no longer curves C exam scores to A's. 85% is minimum

Unless you are 100% prepared to teach yourself physics, run very far away from this professor. His lectures were almost pointless and in no way prepared you for the ridiculously hard exams. I would do every single homework problem and still get 50's on exams. Drops lowest exam grade and has a huge curve, still not worth taking physics with him.

A rock could 'teach' me better physics. He regurgitates the textbook and is super boring. 5 tests + lab. Pray your lab TA is competent, which they will be compared to him. Prepare to teach yourself for this class. The textbook is required, but you can find it for free online. The dude believes global warming is a hoax. Need I say more.

Hurst is a very pretty great professor, he is caring and is accessible outside class. His lectures are very helpful. Grades is based only on exams which are multiple choice questions . If you know and understand the concepts, you will pass every test. He curves the exams base on the highest score and is fair to everyone. Work hard and pass.

Took this Professor for a Summer session II and I already knew it was going to be challenging, but when a Professor that is supposed to teach us just walks out after handing back our exams and basically scolding us is unreal. He never even came back too lol If he would teach more efficiently maybe a majority of the class would actually pass.

He lectures with clear projection slides ad barely shows how to work problems. His lectures are difficult to follow and test questions are harder than the homework. You'll have to do tons of practice problems to even hope to pass. Only perk is he has a decent curve.

Ohhh Hurst. What. A. Guy. This man teaches this class like its him against his students. His tests are war - he comes in full force. But really, I'm not sure why he teaches, he doesn't seem to enjoy it at all. UNDERSTAND the concepts, do HW problems and the example problems from each chapter. Go to class as he'll put q's on test that aren't in book

DO NOT TAKE HURST. His lectures are awful, and ancient. He only goes over "concepts" of physics and doesn't work out equations. You will have to teach yourself physics. Dr. Hurst if you read this - please stop making us use those ancient 5-function calculators that barely work. Let us use our own.
