Comment:
My experience with Mr.King was terrible. I missed ONLY 2 classes because of an excused absence (I had mono, and a Dr's note to prove it), never got below a B on any assignments and my final exam I got a 95, my final grade in the class: C+.Very questionable grading techniques. My advice: don't take his class unless you HAVE to, and don't get sick.

He switched between using a check +/- system on homework to standard letter grades on exams, as well as numbered proficiences on the microteaching activity. I had to revise all my homework and got a C on the exam. I did 25 pages for his final exam, and talked to others who did 40+. I too lost my perfect GPA in his class after 3 straight A semesters

Picks favorites- if he likes you, you'll do well. If he doesn't- you won't. Simple as that. If you're not a favorite you'll have to try much harder than the ones he does like to get a good grade in this class.

Professor King is a very tough professor and there is a lot of work involved in the class. But he really cares about his students and devotes a lot of his own time to helping them. I think I learned the most from him.

Wonderful professor who dedicates a great deal of his time to helping students succeed in his class. However, you must be a motivated and hard-working student, because he does have his favorites. Probably the heaviest 3 credit course I've taken - it is a lot of work.

If you are a slacker do not take this professor. He grades very hard. He is particularly picky on lesson plans. Dennis expects high quality work from his students. NEVER EVER MISS CLASS or you will lose points off of your final participation grade (35% of final grade) If you are willing to put in some hard work, you will learn a lot.

Awful professor. He doesn't care about his students at all. He doesn't realize that we have lives too. He grades hard, picks favorites, and asks his students to do things that will never be done in an actual classrooms. Avoid him if you can.

Not at all understanding in regards to absences, however legitimate they are. Sometimes can be overly critical. Classes are pretty dry. Overall, not very flexible with anything, in my experience. A few others, though, did seem to enjoy him. Hit or miss.

You love him, or you hate him. Which side you fall on depends on his opinion of you. Don't disagree with him, don't EVER miss a class, (no matter how sick you are) do everything he says right down to how you word your sentences. On lesson plans, don't write "students will learn..." write "the learner will be able to". That's how critical he is.

Prof King is tough, but the work he makes you do is worth it. He is picky on lesson plans, and pushes you to put your best work forward. If you are dedicated you will be fine. He is very concerned for the class as a whole. Great teacher!

In his first class, he gave out an assessment that made me feel like an idiot. You won't know any of then answers. It really intimidated me and a lot of his discussions in class are discouraging about your hopes as a teacher. He also focuses only on Maine schools which is not helpful to students planning on teaching elsewhere.

His exams are very unclear. He expects you to rate each question you answer as to how it applies to Bloom's Taxonomy, even though it doesn't apply. I had no idea how to categorize the questions asked and he was not helpful in answering my questions. Information in class doesn't apply to what you are learning.

He's a good guy, but his teaching method is unstructured and random. He doesn't have a set way of teaching things, and therefore you have to teach things to yourself a lot. His criticisms on assignments also seem to come from nowhere. Doesn't give a lot of attention to secondary ages or out-of-Maine issues. An easy guy to get along with though.

He makes students feel like they should know a ton of stuff you won't have learned. He's close-minded about political opinions differing from his own. I tried talking to him about some personal issues, but he had no time for me. He never shows that he actually cares for his students. The class isn't bad, but don't expect a friendly teacher.

It was a lot of work. I learned a lot. His experiences are with middle school students so he is more geared toward the younger years. I agree that his classes are not for slackers. He is not trying to fail people like other profs. But his classes do weed out who is willing to go the distance.

He works you. You do learn a lot in return, though. However if you're going into Secondary Ed. my one complaint is that much of his advise is aimed at Elementary teachers. You still learn what you need to know, but you also sit through a lot of stuff that doesn't apply to teenagers.

This man knows what he is talking about. I've learned more from the 2 classes i've taken with him, then all my other courses combined. If you are a slacker and don't want to do work... take another class. If you are a legitimate education major and you want to be a good teacher someday, then this is the class to be in. He is a very fair grader.
