Comment:
You definitely have to read a lot for Kellman's classes, but they are in the English Department, so it shouldn't be a total shock. Kellman has high expectations for his students. It's stressful sometimes, but you feel a massive sense of accomplishment when the semester ends.

Im sure Kellman is a brilliant man but not a very caring professor. He knew very well this semester would be an uphill battle for some of his students, yet he remained steadfast in having students read an absurd amount of books in so little time. The term paper was a nightmare. And its remarkable how condescending he is to students responses.

Comment:
Do not take Kellman's course. His students gradually faltered in participation; any time a student DID speak to their own opinions, they were guaranteed one of his pompous, obstinate "mmmms" in response. No doubt, the man is brilliant, but rather than guide you towards your own brilliance, he will merely use you as an audience to witness his.

An intelligent man, yes. A good instructor, no. He seems more interested in his own opinions than others. He comes off as quite pompous, pretentious, and condescending when opinions differ from his own. Expect B's to be the new A's. The readings are unnecessarily demanding especially in the time that I'm writing this. Overall, below than average.

Comment:
Everything is "scintillating", unless you're one of the students who hasn't followed him from class to class. Even if it is an upper-level class, unless it's the only class you're taking, there's no way to get through the amount of reading between classes. Very condescending if your opinion differs from his. Would not recommend to anyone.

Honestly this class is not that hard. This is an upper division English course, so yes, it does require reading and that you pay attention. Quizzes are always announced and if you did the reading they shouldn't be hard. Critical thinking is important when it comes to the essays, but this professor is not unreasonable and is happy to give feedback.

I enjoyed most of Kellman's lectures, but I do agree at times he can come off as condescending, especially the way he says "mmmhhmm" when someone makes a comment I guess he finds unhelpful. As for the class layout, he'll quiz on every novel, have 2 papers, an individual presentation, and a final. It's a lot, but doable if you put in the work.

Writing that earns an A in other classes will be lucky to receive a B in Dr. Kellman's class. If you're not worried about your GPA then take one of his classes - you'll be enriched. And writing an A paper for him is possible, but your argument has to be VERY strong and clear. Also, ask him to clarify assignments.

Great class but you MUST read the books. Professor is VERY knowledgeable and expects his students to know a little too much (sometimes making it hard to follow). Be prepared for weekly quizzes and the use of direct quotes on tests and quizzes.

It's NOT that bad. There is a lot of reading BUT I did about 70% of it and got a B. He's going to be smarter than you, it's a given and some students couldn't stand that. I feel smarter for hearing his lectures. He's kind of "out there" but interesting. Bring a pillow to sit on, it drags a bit.

Do not take this prof. If you don't share his opinions on things, you will struggle to pass. If you have a brown nose you will do fine. He is a very smart man, but he is a poor instructor. He is fairly nice in class, but in private, his personality leaves a lot to be desired. If you want an A, then treat him like the god's gift he thinks he is.

Kellman is deserving of every compliment. He's a great professor and cares about students' learning. He does, however, have strong ideas that often don't mesh with the students. He's an excellent writer and poet. I would take him again. YOU WILL WORK HARD!

Really good class, he is very intelligent, and is a wealth of knowledge. I did feel a little like it was his way or no way at all. It seems he has very specific ideas about literature (and all this entails)?not that this is a bad thing, just a certain view. If you take his class, you will be challenged (but also learn a lot).

I don't understand why there are so many bad comments. He's a great prof. There's a lot of reading and he tells you ahead of time when he'll quiz you. If you read, you're good. His test are hard...if you don't read. Mostly fill in the blanks and multiple choice. I would take him again if I had the chance.

He is NOT a good professor. He doesn't give any feedback to any comments made in class unless it's negative. He's very arrogant and isn't clear in his instructions for the midterm or final. I would NOT take a class with him again.
