Comment:
Elofson is by far the best history prof I've had at UofC thus far. He makes the classes interesting and he is a very fair marker. There aren't many tests, your grade is more dependent on group projects, essays, and participation. I would definitely take his class again!

Dr. Elofson is true U of C tressure. I have taken multiple classes with him. Put in a little effort and an A or A+ is easily possible. Dr. Elofson knows his stuff, his lectures are super interesting, and he is a very nice and easy to talk to guy. He does however use group work a lot, so be weary of that if its not your thing.

Comment:
Dr. Elofson is a good choice for anyone wishing to have an easier experience in a history class which focuses more on group work and lectures. Individual writing and textbook reading are less important. I may be biased however as I was very interested by the content of HTST 357 itself. If you are interested in Alberta's history- HTST 357 is for you

Elofson is awesome. Really passionate about the material, in this course in particular. Cared about our success and helped at any opportunity. Genuine, good-natured and inspirational. Book review, group essay and individual and group weekly submissions were the components. Participate, enjoy the class and you will be successful. Highly recommend.

Dr. Elofson is an amazing prof! He doesn't believe in tests so everything was essay based (term paper, midterm and final) and participation every week. We only did participation classes on Friday, but were super helpful for the midterm and final! The final is a take home essay which was even better! He is very passionate and makes the class fun.

Dr Elofson puts a great emphasis on reading in his class. Make sure to start well ahead on your book readings and allocate sufficient time for not just reading them but also taking notes on the content, as it can get dry but you need to understand it for the papers. The group work is also beneficial so attending is must.

Lectures were really bland and he just read off his powerpoints. The group works were easy marks but other than that he marks on your grammer and not your content which is wrong to do. There are for sure better history profs in the department.

Good professor, but just wasn't my teaching style. I found his lectures kind of bland, and the book assessments were a bit tough, but easy enough if you put some effort into them. Textbook not needed (I returned mine) and group work 100% essential, it can really boost your grade. Interesting material though.

Easy marker and straight forward assignments. One book assessment, research paper, final and group work every Friday. Textbook was not really needed, mostly based on lectures. Lecture notes were very confusing and unclear so you really have to pay attention. Impossible to communicate with him through email, he rarely responds but easy class

He's a nice prof and can be quite funny either intentionally or unintentionally. The grading of work is very fair and he encourages students to think outside the box for the essays. One slight negative is that his powerpoint slides are very dull, so it can be difficult to pay attention in class.

He's a really great professor and knows a lot on the subject. It's best to make notes as he's talking since the powerpoints are more skeleton notes. He makes it clear what he expects for the exams (which are take home essays) so if you sit down read what he wants and do that it'll be easy. He is compassionate and understanding!

Great guy, really funny and fun to listen to. I took it as an option but I don't recommend it as an option. If you hate essays, the class will destroy you but if you are a History major or really love history and like essays, then the class is easy. Be careful, attend class for the group work and start reading for the book assessment early.

Dr. Elofson was absolutely great! Marks were based off a midterm, book assessment, and final PLUS weekly group work which was an easy A if you went to class. He was excellent at preparing us for ALL the assignments IF you attended class. Also more than willing to help you out with the assignments if you needed it.

Easy class, great prof. Lectures can get dry, but the group work is very beneficial. Don't waste your money on the textbook, as everything is based on the lectures. Open book final, only one question that he gives to you a week before. Easy and fast grader, would take again.

Weekly reading/group work was one of the easiest parts of the class. No textbook required & articles are provided by him. Really enthusiastic but material is dry. Gives good feedback and advice, plus extensions if requested. Attendance is MANDATORY for him, even if you're not paying attention. Easiest A I've ever gotten in a history course.

Nice approach to class, focuses on a lot of hands-on group work which is nice and refreshing for history. Lectures can be a bit monotonous but the content is not bad. Nice guy and easy to approach. If you meet all of his expectations he will give you an easy A. A few readings-chapters and articles. Some are harder to read than others but still okay
