Rigorous class with a many grading components. Me and the other members of the class really bonded and Prof. Sobolik was great at melding the lecture, seminar, and lab components of the class. Loved it!

This was an interdisciplinary course and Prof was knowlegeable about a wide variety of subjects. I enjoyed learning more about anthropology -- it isn't my field -- and she made it easy to understand. Excellent graduate seminar!

She seems to be an easy grader on students she likes and very harsh on students she doesn't like. If she doesn't like you she will give you a lower grade even if you worked & study hard. Even if you get As and Bs in all other subjects you can still fail her course. Often her tests are out in left field. She's 1 reason why I dropped ANT as my major.

She has basically ruined my life since taking this course. She is the only teacher I have had that does not like my writing style, which I find quite difficult to comprehend. Her exams are completely bogus, and are totally off track. Her grading is extremely unfair, and I find it difficult to get a good grade on anything, especially my exams.

Hard exams but said we could talk with her after class if we felt that her grading was unfair HOWEVER if you tried to speak with her and give examples where she was unfair she would simply say that she was being fair and that we didn't focus or study enough on what she thought was important, Even if you did study hard and focus. Her exams are ?????

PS. I was the one who said that Sobolik had "unrealistic expectations". Sorry I called her "he" by accident, I am aware that she is a woman and it was only a typo. PSS She gave us TONS of chapters to read and yet 99% of the questions were from her lecture. She also missed a lot of classes for sick days but still didn't postpone exams.

She was giving her MWF 50 min class the same exam that she would give her T-TH 85 min class. There was simply not enough time to do all the short answer, key term match up, essay question, deffinitions, and then solve the complex problem at the end. Her grading scale was a tad unorthodox as well. I think he has unrealistic expectations.

ANT 317 was fundamentals of archaeology. For me, as a freshman taking it my second semester, she was really into the class, since she has a lot of field experience and loves the subject. Her problem sets are easy, since she just grades them on effort, and if you study your notes and the terms in the book you should be all set.

She missed a lot of classes but would not postpone her exams to make up for lost time. She expected us to do a LOT for only 50 mins for a test. We were made to do up to 6 chapters per test but all questions where from her lectures. She did a little male bashing that I was unhappy with even though she was sort of joking.

She assigned a ton of reading, none which was on the exam - except what was in her notes. Only 50 minutes to answer tests multiple choice, short answer, an essay, and a work-problem so not much time except to spit out what you know fast. Take good notes, listen carefully to what she says to do, and you'll do OK. Overall it was an interesting class.

I would have to agree with the post below "Avoid her if you can". Her tests are very subjective and so she has license to either give you a high grade OR an extremely low grade.
