Comment:
Teaching methods seemed a little antiquated. As an online student, I was shocked at how much she wanted the class to engage in her LIVE online video sessions on weekdays. Most people who take online courses have a busy schedule. She also seemed very confused about the material she was teaching and didn't elaborate on her grading very much.

Comment:
This class is difficult and Vicki is a tough grader. However, she posts weekly lectures (3x a week), gives lots of examples, and provides specific, individualized feedback on assignments. The class is simply structured - there are only 10 assignments for the class and opportunity for extra credit (no exams / required discussion posts).

Worst teacher at PCC. Changes grading rubric halfway through the term and grades retroactive based on the new rubric. I didnt see a graded paper returned until the end of week 6 on a 10 week class. Mandatory live meetings but just log in to the session and you can leave to watch it later when its convenient.

Vicki has taught an interesting class. It has online Blackboard for the able, weekly discussions, assignments and quizzes and a term project. She is slow to grade but quick to reply to communications. I learned both some tech skills and work ethic. In learning, a bit more concrete application would be appreciated, but the skills were promising.

Vicki teaches SQL and database design. These are TOUGH subjects -- no way to make them easy -- but Vicki is patient and very accessible, and explains the subject thoroughly. Whether teaching a class online or on campus, she spends a lot of extra time answering questions in the online discussion forums. Hard courses... easy professor!

Required class for many CIS majors. Horribly set-up, the course starts with MS SQL server and moves to Oracle SQL developer after 3rd week. Online course ncontent is dated and documentation is just wrong.

Nitpick on assignments using criteria she doesn't post until AFTER assignment is due . When asking for help on something graded down, refers you to the "solutions" she posted, without detail. Doesn't answer questions- tells students to come to online chat session. Complains when students don't attend online sessions mid-day for ONLINE class.

Crazy hard class. Also, instructional folksy-style seems to be more of the leader of an SQL hobby group than that of instructor/student. Assignment instructions are intentionally obscured to the point of leaving the student in the lurch. Harder than graduate-level programming classes.

Very helpful if you attend her online lecture. HOWEVER... her assignments seem to be a game to her where she wins if nobody gets them completely done. They often require knowledge of material she hasn't covered in any format. I like her personally, but I can't recommend her as a teacher unless you really like learning from your own research.

Knows the material but presentations were disorganized and not cohesive to the text book. Loves to be needed- even hands out her cell phone number which IMO is a bad thing. She can talk through the code but I really don't feel she can 'teach'. Nice person who cares.

Vicki is very helpful and goes the extra mile to make sure students understand the material. I took CIS275 online yet she was nice enough to record the on campus class and post it for us online students to watch. The assignments are do-able but they are not easy especially the last 4 so make sure you read her slides and watch the class recordings.

Vicki gives you plenty of opportunities to ask questions in discussion boards, online collaboration rooms, she really wants every student to understand the material. Get started early on the assignments, start early in the week. If you save it till the last few days before the due date, you will be in trouble! Hard subject, great professor!

Vicky's a dedicated, hard working teacher who was very caring and concerned about the success of each and every student. She was very well prepared with high quality assignments, presentations, and grade feedback. Tons of homework so plan to spend a lot of time but you will learn a lot. Very friendly and approachable. Fun too!

This professor ROCKED!!!! She provided tons of material in addition to the textbook and was always available to discuss any questions that arose. The key to this professor is to keep up -- and if you're falling behind, ASK FOR HELP -- even though this was an online class, the Professor was always available!!

Seriously people: I have had a lot of classes, and Vicki is very good for 1 really important reason: She covers the material you need to know in class. Try taking a freaking computer class where the prof does not give you the code examples you need to do the labs. The deal with her is - you have to keep up.

I learned a whole lot in this class and I must say the instructor, Vicki Jonathan, was much to blame. Both online and in-class lectures I found informative and her witty humor made class even more fun. She encouraged the class to work together in the online environment and provided hints to completing labs. Allow time plenty of time for labs!

Vicki wants to ensure the success of her students, she provides help on assignments (yes be prepared to spend 8 hours a week on the labs) almost 7 days a week and has a nice in-class lecture if you can make it (it's not mandatory). Plenty of great discussion on the D2L and if you follow the syllabus you will learn a lot about PL/SQL and T-SQL! +++

Way to much work, but not the "I really learned something from this" kind... 50 question quizzes every week, but all answers can be found from Google. This was just a business class that uses computer terminology every once in a while. Waste of time.
