Wisman is a legend! Going to the TA sessions is a must, but you get extra credit for going. There is a massive curve on both the midterm and final, and the midterm doesn't count for your final grade if you get a higher score on the final than the midterm. There also are 2 short and easy papers on Econ history/philosophers. Interesting lectures!

Here's the most honest rating of Wisman- ECON100 is way too hard and he treats it like a grad course, but your grade will be fine. He gets that he's teaching it pretty hard and thus curves very high. How high? My grade on the final exam went from a 58 to a 79. Papers are graded easily and you get points for attending discussion sessions.

Wisman is not as bad as all these people say he is. Although he often goes off-topic, the lectures are interesting and the exams are relatively simple as the questions are taken STRAIGHT from the homework. Although he isn't amazing if you show up to class and do the work you can get a B+ easily. Also curves the exams!!

Professor Wisman is the worst professor I've ever had. I have had a 3.78 GPA my entire time in college (I'm a junior) and I just failed his class despite doing every assignment and trying extremely hard. The worst part is, this is supposed to be the easiest econ class at AU. He teaches it as if he's instructing a graduate level class. DO NOT TAKE.

Macroeconomics is supposed to be an introductory class introducing you to the field of economics. Wisman seems to believe it is a graduate-level course where he can rant about god knows what and expect everyone to know as much as he does. He randomly selects people in the class to embarass them AND THE FINAL IS 65% OF THE GRADE.

Comment:
Rather than explaining concepts Wisman talks about economic history from the dawn of man every class and does not explain how to answer questions on his tests that take up 65% of your grade. He talks about irrelevant topics that do not contribute to your learning. When he does speak about economics his concepts go far further than what ECON 100 is.

He's a very kind and enthusiastic teacher, and he really wants to help you succeed, but also he gets super off-topic during the lectures. If econ is something you have prior knowledge/skill in I would highly recommend since the lectures aren't super boring and it's not the end of the world if you don't show up, but not for those who are bad at econ

He is an amazing professor but just not my style. We have homework once a week that you can check as you do it, so an easy A. You have two papers that you have to do over the history of economics and two exams that total 65% of your final grade. He kind of goes off-topic so TA sessions are a must, plus if you go, you get extra credit for the exams.

He is nice but his lectures are long and repetitive. He tries to help you if you reach out to him either office hours or email. The TA sessions are very helpful especially with the paper and exams.

Wisman really cares about his students and econ. His lectures are super passionate and exciting to listen too. Unlike other econ lectures he grades you on projects and hw so its not just the final. He literally gives you 3 tries for each piece of hw. Everyone did badly on the multiple choice midterm so he gave us all bonus points.

Absolutely despise this guy. His class is way too hard for an intro level Econ class. The class average for the midterm was extremely low. He just lectures about his own political views and then loads the tests with questions from the readings and the online homework. Highly recommend looking for a different econ professor

Wisman is honestly amazing, he is very passionate about economics and brings a ton of knowledge to the class. He is quite the character. He is a lecturer, no powerpoints or concise notes and has a particular interest in economic history so he is not everyones cup of tea. But, just a very friendly guy, go to the ta sessions they help alot in learnig

Wisman loves economics so much and it really shows! Going to class isn't necessary in order to do well on exams. Grade is based off two easy papers, two exams, and 10 homework assignments. Most of the exam is taken word for word from the homework so you don't need to do readings or go to class to pass as long as you review the assignments.

Professor Wisman made Macro interesting with the examples he used. Lectures don't always relate to the reading, so it is important to read the book as well for the tests. However, the lectures are good and he kept my attention every class.

Sometimes rambles on about arbitrary topics and drones on, but occasionaly will catch an interesting topic he talks about. Lots of HW to do you pass but he does not really talk about anything seemingly relevant to the online homeworks

You should not take Macroeconomics with anyone but Jon Wisman. He is a star, a legend. His lectures are actually semi-interesting and useful. My roommates were in a different lecture, and while they were learning about unnecessary functions and equations, we were learning about the past has shaped why our economy is what it is today. I 3 Jon

You can tell he's passionate about econ from the beginning. However, he's a very boring lecturer and sometimes talks about econ HISTORY rather than showing us how to do econ problems he has on his tests. Go to the TA sessions each week or else you'll be so confused.

I thought Professor Wisman taught a great class. It was almost like a hybrid between an econ class and a history class. He was a brilliant orator as well, and gave entertaining (if not always exciting) lectures. Especially interesting to juxtapose his macroeconomics class with Danliel Lin's microeconomics class.

Very dramatic lectures; in a good way. Really funny, he does tend to talk about drugs more than other professors but not to the point that it isn't funny. You will probably need to actually do the textbook readings to get above a B.
