Bestmy favorite professor at umaine. Take tons of notes, don't miss class, write long papers, and talk to him outside of class. Super nice helpful guy who is very intelligent. Not just a smart teacher but a wise one. ALL THE WORK IS ALWAYS WORTH IT! At this point in my life sociology is not making me more $ but I will never regret taking his class

BEST TEACHER I HAVE HAD AT UMAINE! Honestly the guy is like 80 years old and the most intelligent man I have ever spoken to before. I wish I could take more classes with him. The sociology of the self class honestly changed my life in the best of ways. I also took Macro with him, a bit boring but he made it great.

Love Cohn! He's an encyclopedia and so enthusiastic about the subject. Takes a personal interest in students and seems to genuinely care that you understand every concept. Take lots of notes while he's lecturing and read the outside material and you'll be set to write the papers. Highly recommend his classes!

Told me he put in an extension to Student Reocrds so I could make up exams during May Term but he never did. So all that work I did was for nothing. I also complained to him once because students were coming in late to class and slamming the door during exams/quizes and he responded by suggesting I am sensitive to noise. Rude! Umaine Sucks!

(and soc 499) Professor Cohn (contrary to what some have already said) is the most incredible professor I have had the honor to learn from. He expects a lot from you and you have to attend class to get a good grade. Cohn will make sure you succeed regardless, if he knows your heart is in it. I learned so much from him, I leave his classes having a

A bit unprofessional in some respects, doesn't lable the readings to match the study guide, hard to get him to reply to emails, nice enough guy just a quiz in every single class before class so we are too busy cramming than to focus. Like most Umaine professors I don't like him.

He's a nice guy but his lectures are hard to take notes to as he goes very fast. Also there is a quiz ever single class which is stressful to keep up with also his tests arn't that hard but you need to treat everything as if it's important so that means a ton of studying compaired to other classes. Interesting lectures but rather stressful.

A lot of students -- or at least the ones in my class -- think he's like Darth Vader in disguise. Aside from the apparent turtleneck obsession, however, Professor Cohn is fantastic and very nice. He's helpful and leads a good class discussion. Grading and workload are both heavy, but it's worth it.

He has some weird outfits & does weird things with his hands, but hes a good teacher. He expects you to memorize everything that comes out of his mouth. A lot of memorization but atleast hes clear and tells you exactly what he wants you to know. Required to take the class but good luck to all the rest of soc majors..its a hard class. You will learn

Nice guy with a strange wardrobe and personality. Usually leads a pretty interesting discussion. Lets class debate issues. Makes you think, unlike many honors profs. I feel like I actually learned something. Grades pretty tough on papers, but not insanely difficult. Overall, a pretty good preceptor.

Extremely closed-minded; he needs a wardrobe change; Office hours are like an interrogation session; he is really ugly... If you liked reading before, you probably won't after this class. I'm a Dean's list student. I'm not bitter, he just sucks.

He is the worst professor I have ever had. He will give you bad grades on papers just because he doesn't agree with the topic because his opinion is always right. His work load is ridiculous and class discussion does not exist. It is boring as Hell...
