Dr. Scheye is a great, respected professor. He knows more about Shakespeare than anyone I've ever met. He relates to all his students and understands college students more than the younger professors I've had. However, the work is insanely hard. It is nearly impossible to get an A on tests or papers. He is helpful and class is interesting.

Wisest professor I have ever had. He understands college students in a way no one else does. He expertly weaves class content into real life knowledge. He truly cares about his students and loves teaching. Best Shakespeare class you will take.

If you're not an English Major, you're in for an EXTRA rough semester. Nobody in the class can get an A. One paper I wrote received a B+ and i went to office hours to ask what was wrong with it & how i could improve the next one, he said it was essentially perfect... he just doesn't give A's. Smart man; interesting content; but extremely DIFFICULT

I absolutely love Scheye. He is a great old man with a wonderful sense of humor and a ton of knowledge. Scheye knows what he is talking about and really cares about engaging his students. This class will push you to participate and go deeper into everything you read but it is so worth it.

I am an old graduate, 1982, but have so many fond memories of Dr. Scheye's classes. From Milton through all of Shakespeare',s works, I spent two days a week for 3 years in his lectures. And I actually got A's!!! Hard work but he inspired me to work hard. Never under estimate a professor asking for more than average.

Disregard negative reviews about this man, he is a gem. I took this class for my English major and went in caring very little about Chaucer and Spencer but he has an amazing discussion based lecture that really engaged me every minute of every class. I learned everyday in this class. Essays are no harder than your typical english course. I recomend

I have no idea how this man can still be teaching at Loyola. He is terrible. He changes the parameters for an assignment constantly so you never know what the project is about. He can never make his mind up! Oh! Let me also mention that he almost never gives A's in the class. He also think his class should be you first priority! Run from this class

Scheye is brilliant and passionate. He works with his students to conduct the class in whatever way is most helpful for them. Don't expect him to give you any answers, but don't be afraid to offer your own. As he will tell you, A's are rare, but you get the grades you deserve. The extra work is worth the effort.

Never heard of Milton before him and I can still quote Paradise Lost today because of Scheye. Great guy, great class. If you get the chance, see if you can find the video of him doing a talk on Milton from the early 1970's. Big lambchop sideburns, long hair and a velvet jacket...gotta love it!

I took this class, because I wanted to learn about Pardise Lost. I'm glad I stumbled upon an excellent teacher as well. Mr. Scheye (not Dr.) impressed me with his knowledge, his concern for his students, and his joy for teaching. He has a natural ability to make class interesting just by talking. I completed his course knowing I earned my grade.

I graduated a few years back, but will always remember Dr. Scheye as one of the best profs I've ever had. I had his Shakespeare class during the fall of 2001, and how he compared King Lear with 9-11 is one of those things I'll never forget. I still keep a copy of King Lear on my desk. Thanks Dr. Scheye.
