Comment:
This class is graded on very few things and the tests are weighted the most in your grade. He knows his tests are hard and knows very few will get As, but he has changed his grading scale so even if you don't do well on the tests that you are likely to still pass the class. He's knows the material well (since he wrote the textbook). I recommend.

Riley knows his stuff, but he doesn't know how to communicate it to his students. He doesn't explain why something is the way it is - he just expects you to know it. I went to his office hours multiple times a week and still was not given any answers to my questions. CS is my major and am going to have to retake 220 because of him. AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!

Avoid at all costs! He tells the class that if he took his exams, he couldn't even get a 100% and it's true. CS is my major and he is terrible. He doesn't explain why something is the way it is. He just says that's what is has to be. Expect to be in his office four times a week asking questions that you might get the answers to.

Comment:
This class was not the easiest-- your grade is based on only very few quizzes and 3 major exams. Lectures are very long and can be boring, but to do well in the class you definitely need to show up for lectures. The class itself is pretty tolerable; however, exams are very tough for being a 100 level course. Riley is a very nice guy though.

Wasn't available very much. He is good in lecture but his tests are way too hard and don't follow the study guide. Be prepared for a challenge. Way to difficult for a 100 level gen ed.

He is a very nice professor. He is always willing to help. He wrote a book on java, so he knows what he's talking about and is good at clearly explaining the material. It's a difficult class but he helps make it easier for you. I would definitely recommend taking him for this class.

Riley is a very nice man. He is very willing to help with any questions you might have. The class though is pretty hard. Personally, I got 100 percent on all homework and quizzes to find out it is only 20 percent of the grade. Two exams and a final are the rest of the grade which are extremely difficult. Great guy, tough class.

Awesome professor. Powerpoints are online, and it is an easy class to skip. Exams can be a little tough, but not too bad. He is more than willing to meet with you for the labs or if you have other questions.

Not the most interesting professor, does have a joke everyday though. He is very cut and dry, unlike some of the other professors that teach this subject. He is the writer of the book so he uses it directly. Still could relate better to students, but he does know his Java.

I feel like the class was almost as unenjoyable as he was in general. He randomly talks about things and you don't even have to go to class. I missed 5 classes in one semester and they were all lectures, and still ended up with an AB. The guy just isn't a great professor. I also never went in for help, though.

The nicest, most helpful professor. He will help you write your entire program if you sit in his office all day. His assignments incorporate graphics which is very very helpful if you're going to be taking more CS classes. He is also one of the easiest grading CS professors. He tells cow jokes and chip jokes to help keep you interested.

I loved Dr. Riley. His assignments got pretty difficult toward the end of the semester, but he was never hesitant to help with them. I also think he's kind of funny in his own way.

Definitely my favorite professor! Lectures get boring but he tells lots of jokes. Very helpful. The programming assignments are creative and if you get stuck, he's more than willing to help you via email or in person. Lots of opportunities for extra credit. He grades on a curve which sucks if you're not doing too well. I would definitely recommend!

Dr. Riley was AWESOME. Definitely was very very helpful - just email him or talk to him if you have questions. CS is my major and I have done it before (few years ago)so it was a little easier for me however dr riley is who you want! His class isn't boring at all and he definitely has a sense of humor. Im excited to have him again next semester.

Odds are that if you are taking CS120, that you have some interest in the subject. His tests and quizes are hard. His weekly programming assignments are difficult, but just ask him for help in his office. It is best not to get frustrated when programming!

Extremely hard class, all tests are curved but it really doesn't matter. Nice guy, willing to help, but in the classroom he's dry and has little relevance. Wish he had examples in the powerpoints that would ACTUALLY HELP when working on the programming assignments. Nice guy, hard class. Could be better

He is a very nice teacher who is always willing to help his students. Although the tests are curved, they are extremely hard. Most students end up with either B or C. A is pretty hard to get in my opinion.
