Comment:
This is my first time taking one of Mr. Jhally's courses and it didn't disappoint. His course introduced me to interesting perspectives and made me think more critically about the world. The only thing I'd change about the course is the length of the readings for they can be quite burdensome. Other than that, stay on track and you'll do just fine.

I took this as an online course, the course was very simple if you do the bare minimum - but i suggest you actually pay attention because the material is quite interesting. however, some of the references are a little outdated.. or at least becoming outdated. either way, youll still learn a lot from him. hes very passionate about what he teaches.

I took Comm 288 online and I've just got to mention how lazy this professors is. We were given recorded lectures from 7 years ago on issues that have changed drastically (LGBT representation, rape culture, etc...) The fact that all his quizzes and tests were easy sorta makes up for it because it's an easy A but a college professor need to do more!

Took all 3 of his classes at the strong rec of friends. amazingly informative, the most important classes I took at UMass. Shaped how I scrutinize & interpret ads/media. Dont wait till the last minute to do the work though. at least skim the lectures and take notes when the slides update. Then, watch the movies & do readings. you'll be fine

the best class I have ever taken. I wish everyone at Umass had to take this class it is so eyeopening and SO important. It is really important that you go to class because all exams are solely on class content but the lectures are amazing I actually looked forward to them. This class will completely change your perspective on the world and race.

Phenomenal teacher but this class isn't a walk in the park. Lots of readings/movies with quizzes attached, so you have to do them. Attendance not mandatory but if you don't get the notes you're screwed. 3 tests with 80+ multiple choice and very specific questions. It's more than just taking notes, you really have to understand it to pass the class

Grade is determined by 2 exams and multiple quizzes. Exams are 35% each towards your final grade, exams are 80+ questions for 12 lectures. Questions are very specific and exams are very hard. Also, Sut doesn't let you take any of his classes pass/fail....

His lectures are so long and it takes him an hour to cover one point. His lectures are so outdated and his tests are very hard. Most of the quizzes are on quizlet. 3 exams total with movies and readings that you have to watch/read for the quizzes.

Sut is a very inspirational professor. This class was definitely one of the best I have ever taken. The only thing that poses a challenge is the self-accountability of watching the video lectures and online quizzes. I had a hard time keeping up with them, and as a result got a lower grade than I definitely could have gotten. Overall, great class.

Sut Jhally has a lot of knowledge and is a great lecturer. The class is online so you have to watch the lectures yourself, so make sure you are disciplined. It's an easy B+/A if you listen to the lectures. There are quizzes about twice a week but are easy.

All the material in this class is based off of readings books by authors with no credibility and HBO documentaries. The fact that this is considered a class is remarkable. Easy pass/fail if you need credits though

If you want a class that challenges the way you think and actually teaches you things, take this class. Sut is so intelligent and really makes you think critically about so many things. The online lectures are super interesting, just take good notes because all test questions are from lectures. About 2 short online quizzes a week and 3 exams.

Sut Jhally is a great lecturer and one of my favorites at UMASS. COMM MVP. His online classes were easy enough, with a handful of memorable quotes and engaging moments. Very strict about cell phones and other electronics in his in-person lectures. If you go to lecture (or stream) and take decent notes, its an easy A.

Professor Jhally's online courses have taught me a lot more than most of my classes at UMass. He is really passionate about the course content and uses many readings, short videos and movies to teach us. There are about 2/3 quizzes online every week but they are very easy and the exams are also easy if you watch all the lectures.

Sut Jhally is honestly the best professor I've ever had. I am about to take my third class with this man. He is super passionate about what he teaches and has really changed the way many students look at the world. I have never met such a brilliant man before him. I would 100% recommend his class. Greatest professor I ever had with no competition. A true genius. His classes are eye opening and life changing. I actually took the class ten years ago and am writing this now because I ran into him on the street a few days ago and was star struck. A one of a kind. You should feel honored to have an opportunity to hear this man speak.
