Comment:
Ellen often starts class early, which is a disadvantage. She is often blunt in her responses to students. However, she is a very engaged lecturer and provides lots of opportunities for in class discussion. Her assignments are tough, but if you do well she is very open with praise. She certainly takes some getting used to, but it was overall good.

I'd say she's a good prof as long as you can get past a lot of things (numerous and frequent vocal tics, occasional bluntness/rudeness). She's just a bit socially awkward. And the assignments are open-ended to the point of being vague. But at the same time, she's really helpful and nice, and willing to give extra time.

I would not recommend taking classes with this Prof. She is not clear in her assignments and does so purposefully. She is a very tough marker and is not very helpful.

This prof does not like to elaborate on material and the assignments are rather bland and generalized. I do not recommend taking a class with her if you can avoid it

she knows her subject extremely well and she teaches it well. Now, I wouldn't dispute the fact that she may not be the best examiner, but let's face it folks, we're not kids any more. why should any of us wait for her to tell us how much we should write or not to answer a question. i think this is a part of being a university student. isn't it?

Ellen is friendly and witty. my main concerns were involving her testing methods. her assignments were unclear and misleading, it was not made known how much an answer was supposed to be worth. on our final exam, the ex. the used to explain the first section was EXTREMELY misleading, causing most of our class to fail. i wouldnt recommend Ellen

She's an alright teacher she's looking for specific answers so marks kind of hard if it's not what she wants. exams are multple choice, short answer, and essay. Over all just on o.k. prof

I did not enjoy this class! Ellen gave terrible assignments and exams. She never gave us the amount that each question was worth and she always adds up our final scores incorrectly. Avoid this prof!!

I've been at universities for a long time and she is one of my all-time favourite professors. She makes every subject interesting, puts things into contexts students can relate to and is always available to help. A professor who is amazing at what she does.

I have been fortunate enough to have had her teach me through my program at Carleton. She is very fair and clear. She is right to the point. It is important to her that we know the material. Remember: Teach don't test.

She is an awesome prof! Very clear and really just wants the students to understand the material, and nothing more. There are some small tests and assignments, but no exams.
