Comment:
There's a lot of reading and usually a quiz every class. If you read the material, you will pass the quizzes, and if you do the work, you will pass the class. He gives very detailed feedback on all papers. There's usually a bit of group work every class, which is also an easy A as long as you turn in the work.

He is not an effective grader and made the subject of linguistics even more confusing than it had to be. Every class is group projects and some people dont even do anything and still get your credit. Dont take him!

Do not take this class under any circumstances. He's a tough and extremely unfair grader. You'll worry more about getting good grades than actually learning the material. Like other reviews have said, he wants your essays to match his ideals perfectly. Even if it's an opinion based piece, you're wrong if you don't agree with him 100%.

If your answers don't cater to exactly what he wants to read, be prepared to fail. He doesn't make his grading criteria clear and gives lots of readings so you drown in information overload. Even if the course material is interesting, his bland lectures make everything terrible. I wish I had dropped this course when I could have.

He assigns quizzes, homework, tests, 2 essays, 1 group essay, a common place book (roughly 30 quotes and 30 comments you will have to create), group work every class sometimes with two group work assignments in one class session. Overall his course is full of work, work, work, group work, and more work . Do not taking thinking it will be easy class

The class was more interesting than I expected. If you come prepared to learn and think and work you will do well. Read the assignments, you will get quizzed at the beginning of almost every class. Lots of group work in class but papers are individual. He expects a lot but is willing to help you get there if you ask. He wants students to succeed.

Dr. Lunsford has an extremely dry sense of humor. It's difficult to tell if he's making conversation or lecturing because he rarely writes anything on the board. His classes are also very unstructured. Be prepared for a lot of group work and make sure you read everything. He grades papers very harshly.

Not a bad professor at all. Kind of a dry sense of humor, might cause people to think he's mean. He seemed genuinely interested in what we wrote/thought. Was very relaxed on due dates for assignments, tried to make you pass with a decent grade. I would take this class again with him, as along as you put in minimal effort you will do fine.

although attendance isn't mandatory, you have quizzes almost every day! He gives you 6 books to read throughout the semester and you have to watch the movies because you are tested on them. I felt like 1 in a million in this class. To be honest I texted the whole time. Pay attention or you will get lost

You have to read very well in his class and work hard for your grade. He is sarcastic at times but he also has a heart to take into consideration your efforts when grading you. He is jumpy on topics as he is teaching. You must come to class well-prepared. Bottom line:read, read, study, study.

There's a fine line between genius and INANITY. This guy erased it. Lots of linguists' lingo, jargon, and jibber jabber in the test and in class. In his course, education isn't an experience. It's just a false memory.

This is how to write a paper for this guy: ?Class is used in the service of the status quo,? says Lacan. A number of narratives concerning not theory per se, but subtheory may be discovered. .." It's all meaningless, just like his course content. He's got his favorites who spout back the same drivel that he teaches. Unless you want to become anothe

Dr. Lunsford is definitely one of the best professors at UNC Charlotte. True, his assignments are difficult and he grades harshly, but if you show that you care and meet with him to ask questions, then you will get the most out of the class. He is wonderful and gracious and I would love to take another class with him.

First of all,if one of his accomplices in the Eng Dept doesn't like you, you'll have a difficult time in his class, even if your papers make it abundantly clear that you grasp the material and can extrapolate it(pretty much true throughout the dept). If you arrive in class with no such baggage, you stand a chance, a slim chance. Suck up.

In his class you?ll learn to renormalize the phenomenology of narrative space, resolve the dialectics of metaphorical thought, collectively redefine and reify the paradigm of the parable of the model of the metaphor according to Baudrillard, Derrida, Lacan, Lyotard, Saussure, et al. Really. Ain't that sumpin'?
