please save yourself and don't take him. he is so pretentious and teaches like he expects everyone to already know everything. he grades so harshly, like he expects your writing to be on the same level as his. I was never able to figure out how to write the papers to his liking (even tho I met with him, where he was really rude) and had to drop.

He is very harsh on grading papers. Our class average for almost every paper was a 73. Do not take him if you don't want to your GPA to suffer.

This man is no joke. He hates everything you write and is the hardest grader ever. His lectures are legit painful to sit through bc he doesn't use power points and rarely writes on the board and it is so boring. Also he provided studyguides for the first two exams but not the final??? so im writing this instead of studying. stay away from Lubert.

Dr. Lubert is not a bad teacher, don't let these other reviews fool you. I've had him twice in a row. The classes are reading intensive, but I barely read all of both semesters and got a B and a C. Just be able to write well and you should be okay. He does care about attendance as well. Just try to structure good arguments in your papers.

I had Dr. Lubert for his senior seminar and I liked it. It was on the 1787 Convention and ratification debates. The material felt like it got a bit repetitive and sometimes wasn't the most interesting, but Dr. Lubert does his best to try and keep the class engaged. Didn't give exams; just daily reading summaries and papers. Would recommend overall!

I found Lubert to be one of the most unapproachable professors I've had. I went to his office hours a few times, and if you don't seem like you know what's going on, he doesn't seem willing to help. He always told me to "go deeper" on written assignments but I would literally write until the end of class. Only timed write exams and quizzes. Avoid.

Dr. Lubert is clear, thoughtful, and truly passionate about the subject. The material itself is a bit dry, but pretty much all political theory and thought is. But you'll learn a lot and will make think deeper about the American founding and our political origins.

Dr. Lubert is the best professor I have ever had at JMU. He is intelligent, detailed, and willing to help whenever possible. If you put the work in, you are definitely rewarded. He is fair, kind, and is dressed perfectly for every class. He treats you as an adult, but has a humor that is contagious. Take him!

I studied for an entire week for his final and still failed. I worked night and day to even PASS this class and I still came within .5% of failing. No matter how hard you try, you will always be disappointed with the grade you receive on papers and exams. Don't take this class. Spare your GPA. Take someone else. You will regret this.

Lubert is very knowledgeable and intriguing. He is by far one of my favorite professors in the department. We only had three 6pg paper assignments. If you find yourself needing help, he is beyond willing to do so. I learned a lot of interesting information in this class

Lubert knows what he is talking about. Really good at explaining the reading, if you don't understand, don't worry he will explain it! Don't hesitate to ask questions he is happy to answer them. Really knows what he is talking about you and you will genuinely learn. Take this class for Western Political Theory.

Lots of reading but that's to be expected. If there's anything you struggle with he's pretty good about breaking it down, and he will literally answer any question you have so don't hesitate if you're confused,

While he is intelligent, his ego gets in the way. He thinks and talks like he is above his students. He once told a friend in the class that he prefers that no one takes notes and we just listen to him talk. Although he does allow handwritten notes, he doesn't allow anything else. Just talks the whole time and doesn't answer questions directly.

Comment:
Lubert is very caring about his students and is willing to work with them if they have any difficulty understanding paper assignments. The class was only graded by three papers and participation, and the papers are not easy. If you fall behind in readings, this course will cause you a lot of stress. Learned a decent amount in this class
