Those who read this grading are in for a real surprise. I took a course with Prof Thompson way back in 1983/84! He was teaching at Claremont Graduate School (now University), and I was doing a postgraduate program on a Fulbright-Hays scholarship (Im from Singapore). He is brilliant! His classes are tough. So only those who are good will make it!

Every class is a long boring 2.5 hour lecture. No one in my class was able to take notes because he rants on endlessly and pretty much makes up his own damn terms. The "notes" on canvas are power points that are unorganized and make no sense. This class was supposed to be political science, but on the first day he said its "world theory" AVOID HIM!

This guy is nice but he sucks as a teacher. His grading is unclear and you only have a few assignments that take up your entire grade. Literally EVERY CLASS he would lecture the ENTIRE TIME. The only thing he ever did was talk and talk and it was so boring it was unreal. DONT TAKE.

Quizzes are easy 100% on all of them but I struggled to get a C in this class because his midterms (2 of them) are killer hard, and even after reading the textbook cover to cover, I can't conceptualize what he's trying to get us to learn. He is a very knowledgable professor (Worked for the White house) , who can be helpful only if you ask for it.

His lectures are unclear and everyone leaves equally clueless. Quizzes every week based on book readings and tests are based off of what he says, not the book.

I suggest taking this class with a different professor. His lectures are almost impossible to stay awake during and rarely cover the correct material. He also cannot go 5 seconds without saying uh or um and has a horrible sense of humor.

AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COST. Professor Thompson is an awful teacher and his class is hard. You don't learn anything. I like political science but this guy is horrible.

Comment:
He is ambiguous and it is difficult to know what will be on his midterms and final exams. He will give you a sheet with "all the terms you need to know" from his lectures, but then his tests will be random. Some questions will be from his terms, others completely out of the blue. Don't take this class, it's poorly organized and hard to follow.

I felt that the entire class was an exercise in futility. You can try to take notes, but he goes over the material too fast for you to really understand. Reading the textbook isn't very helpful either because his exams are mostly made up from the material he "covers" in class. There's no doubt that he is a very intelligent, but avoid this course!

Avoid this teacher at all cost! He simply mumbles during lecture and gives extremely ambiguous midterms. Take any other class...really.

Professor Thompson can and easily will put you to sleep. He states at the beginning of the year that the class is easy, I found if you do the readings it isn't that bad. His lectures should not be considered mandatory because most of the class has to do with the readings, and he puts his power points online. He also likes to invent terms

just go back to your dorm and sleep b/c that's what you'll be doing in this lecture. clearly brilliant incredibly dull. class not taught like the intro course it is. lectures are completely unimportant as long as you skim the text.

He's smart, but his teaching methods definitely aren't for everybody. Even though I enjoyed his lectures (when I actually went) I could tell some people were frustrated. I was more frustrated with the annoying little kids in the class trying to sound smart by saying the word "behoove" or talking about something like the Cuban Missile Crisis.

I am a political science minor and i highly suggest staying away from this professor at all cost, at least for Y109. As people have said you can tell he is smart but he cannot convey his thinking during lectures. His lectures are very very confusing, he mostly just mumbles and after every class I have no idea what happened. Not a good teacher!!!!!

I think he expects a little more than he should for an introductory course but if you are interested in the subject matter he is amazing. He is incredibly knowledgeable and has a good sense of humor if not a bit dry. I will say he is not all that easy to approach but nice enough. The only problem I had was one of his student teachers that graded.

Easily a huge waste of time. Looking back I can't even tell you what the class was about. I don't know how I passed because I don't remember anything except hating the class. Had to play a game on the computer which was some war type of game... another trick of wasting valuable time that he uses in his class

Easily the worst professor I've had during my entire college career (I'm a senior). Avoid at all costs. Random grading procedures, boring lectures, and useless textbooks. A giant waste of 15 weeks and three credits.
