Dr. D is honestly my favorite professor at CMU. I also had her for botany and she makes lecture enjoyable because she is very outgoing. With this class, though, because it's a field class, you have to go or you won't learn. Love her!

Absolutely loved her! Botany is a tricky subject with a lot to cover, but she knows what she's talking about. You need to attend lecture and absolutely need to take notes. If you do the study guides she provides before each exam you'll be fine. The tests are pretty hard, but she gives you lots of resources to do well. She's also pretty funny.

Not my favorite prof, but an easy A. Posts study guides for all the sections online so I found doing the study guides and asking questions in lab more helpful than sitting in lecture. We had a couple of pop quiz type assignments in lecture, but most of the grade is based off of exams. Do the study guides, go to lab and it's a guaranteed A.

Dr. D is a really fun professor and really knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. She works to make sure you understand the material. Most of the points are from lab and then the exams in lecture. I love the way she teaches and runs her course and I was not expecting to enjoy this class, but she makes me like it!

One thing I can say about Dr. D is that she is very passionate about the topic. On top of that she is very helpful if you ask, she is always willing to stay late to answer questions. The only negative things I can think of are that she can go off on tangents very easily, and she uses an overhead projector that is very difficult to seeread.

ASK FOR CLARIFICATIONS ON TESTSQUIZZES. the wording on exams is very tricky I will admit! Dr D is very knowledgable about the material she presents. The book isn't necessary, everything you learn she provides in lecture and in the lab manual as well. The lab and class coordinate fairly well, but the lab testquizzes isare definitely harder.

Save yourself the trouble and don't take this class unless you absolutely have to. Her lectures go by fast, but it's only because she bounces from topic to topic and you don't cover anything necessary for the class. She's a nice person, but not that great of a teacher. She doesn't really prepare you for the tests, just leaves you on your own

I took this class on Beaver Island and would highly recommended it. She is a amazing professor and her enthusiasm about plants makes learning botany so much better. Her passion about plants is amazing, I never knew someone could care so much about plants. She is a great professor that is always willing to help if you do not understand something.

Well, I can now say she is one of the best professors I have ever had. Her enthusiasm for the subject is incredible, and all it takes is engagement in the subject to succeed. If you are not willing to ask questions, you will do average on quizzes and exams. Take Botany on Beaver Island if possible.

She is the most disorganized person. I would much rather take a harder class than another class with her. Worst professor.

She is one of the most enthusiastic professors I've had at CMU. She really helps you learn her material and remember it. The lab classes seem pointless most of the time, but they're also usually shorter than the hour and a half they run.

I liked plants before taking this class. She graded very tough and worded quizzes and exams very tricky. The notes and thoughts were disorganized. I truly didn't know what she was asking most of the time, when others would ask for clarification, she would say she didn't make it tricky! Worst class ever, I'm an A student and got a C+!

I was excited to take botany. She was excited to teach it. Sounds great, but she was terrible. Her notes went too fast and she didn't explain things very well. Props for being so excited about trees, but she crushed my love of greenery. Plus sides: Scratch off tests and good labs.

Very enthusiastic teacher! She knows what she is talking about and is really helpful with her explanations. The only thing that bothers me is that she takes notes SO fast, its hard to keep up and listen while your still trying to write the last thing down.

I took Botany with Dr. D on Beaver Island over the summer. IT WAS AWESOME! I love her. She loves plants and it makes the class fun. She is really nice and fair at grading. Lab was really fun since we got to drive/walk around the island every time.
