I am an alumni who graduated in 2013 and had the chance of taking Prof. Atwood's classes years ago. He is a true mentor. He is a fragile soul with a very keen mind, as if he is from another era. If you want to broaden your horizons, gain knowledge to the essence of human mind, and also listen to some magical stories, take his classes!!! <3

Amazing professor and lectures. Prof. Atwood presents the material in a clear and interesting way, very inspiring. Great selection of books to read for the course. Students are encouraged to express their views and develop critical thinking. Professor Atwood has a great positive energy, was always available to answer questions. Fantastic course!

I graduated from college many years ago, and he is one of the best teachers I ever had. His in-depth analysis that he allowed us to do with our preflective unconscious was absolutely amazing. I was sorry to hear from other postings that he is retiring. He will be missed.

The best professor I have ever had in college, and the best teacher I ever had in life. Even though people are annoyed about his stories, they are what makes the class so interesting. If you want to have story time and get an A from it, it has to be with him. I'm really sad he's retiring this month. I'll miss him deeply

One of the most real professors I've come across. He teaches based on first hand experience and tells vivd stories that keep you interested. If you go into this class with an open mind and an eagerness to learn you will come away with more than just a good grade.

Not at all what I expected. His whole class is based on his stories. I went to every class and paid attention and still did not perform well on exams. The paper is easy and he offers extra credit but it's more philosophy than psychology. Learned nothing about personality..SKIP IT!

He is a GREAT professor. Took him for personality psychology. honestly, his notes are all on study blue. try to read as much as you can from his books. its a lot of reading, but I like that they are like novels as opposed to textbook. his stories are interesting ! he's one of my favorite professors at rutgers. definitely understands his students.

Okay.. This class was one of the easiest class ever (personality psych). If you want an A, just use studyblue and answer to all of his questions on sakai. Also, write the paper. He looks at how much effort you put into the class, not your mere grades on the exams. Fool him by answering Qs on the sakai. I never attended to class, still got an A.

I had him for personality psych during the first session of the summer. Such an interesting class! fantastic! I learned so much. The books were all interesting and informing. His teaching is based off his experiences, not necessarily text book. there is a lot of reading though from novel type books. There's even extra credit. Highly Recommend !!

Class was useless. i probably went three times all semester. everything in lecture is pretty much what you read in the million page articles you have to read for the class. so just read on your own. his stories were interesting though, and hes a very nice guy. just no reason to go to class

Took him for personality psychology. Just one thing WORST PROF. AT RUTGERS!!! I learned not one thing about personality. Ohh yeah he lost my final too. I'm still waiting for a grade. So disorganized. His teaching methods were horrible. I would not recommend him.

I took Abnormal with him in 1992. He is the best PSY prof at RU. Unless you are more comfortable in a lab, take his course and internalize the process. He looks through the subject, not at it. This is the creative side of PSY that makes the science real and interesting. Everything else is just numbers and measurements.

He is intelligent and insightful but most students exalt him all because they can memorize a study sheet a day before an exam barely learning anything. I got a C on the first exam despite having a natural aptitude for psychology, perception, math, and critical thinking since I have a LD with verbal skills. I am not great with multiple-choice exams.

Had him for fall 2010. got an A. tells a lot of stories. go to class for notes, attendance not mandatory. 2 exams (midterm 50q,final 40q)self-analysis paper 10pts. total 100. good professor.the exams are half the reading which are books not text books,& half lecture notes. he gives studyguides for both exams. & extra credit options are given.
