Uncle Bijan is a JMU institution. This class was difficult but in the best way; his material is very informative and actually relevant to your life. Exams are hard but there is always a generous curve, and your "savings account" points will boost your grade. I respect him so much and it was a gift to experience his lectures. Please take him!

really nice and caring guy, except his class is very difficult. lectures are hard to sit through because he just talks and doesn't use slides and doesn't encourage notes and rather you just read the textbook outside of class. no phones!! to put things in perspective i think i would've ended up with a C if it weren't for covid putting school online.

Only 3 exams and sona studies. Gives extra credit for never missing a class. The tests are made by the writer of the book. Sometimes he is super boring. Has you call him Uncle Bijan. Quizlets are helpful when studying. He puts a lot of stuff on canvas to help you understand things. Absolutely don't touch your phone ever otherwise you fail the class

This is my second time taking Bijan. Had him for 160 & failed, so decided to try him again. If you want to do well, you need to teach the actual material to yourself. He always curves exams. Great guy with a lot of wisdom & experience. I loved listening to him talk about life but if you have a hefty schedule I would not recommend.

Uncle Bijan is a nice guy and cares about his students but the class is unbearable. There are no slides or visuals he just talks and doesn't make a lot of sense. The tests come straight from the book so if you read every single page and study hard you can do well on the tests. Your whole grade is 3 tests. Doable but i don't recommend.

Uncle Bijan is knowledgeable and is truly passionate about his lectures. With that being said, he lectures for 2.5 hours straight with 0 visual aids. He allows for a small 5 minute break in between but trust me, it isnt enough. This class was unbearable and I would not recommend it.

I had Uncle Bijan (thats what youll call him) my first semester at JMU. Take into account I was a junior and I transferred but I absolutely fell in love with this class because of him. Its a hard class but if you put in the work its easy. He wrote the book so take notes, but he is the sweetest man Ive ever met and is so sweet! Miss him!!

Listen here if you are not a good test taker this is not for you! Missing class more than allowed will punish your grade. There are only 3 test, ONLY 3. Uncle Bijan is a caring and wise man who cares for his students and will often curve tests generously, but you still have to memorize each chapter to pass. GOODLUCK!!!

uncle bijan is nice, but incredibly frustrating. he wont teach you a thing, and you will learn everything from the textbook, so buy it! class is mandatory, and dont even think about touching your phone or he will humiliate you in front of the entire class and fail you. uncle cares about his students, but not worth the hassle:) good luck

Bijan is a really nice man who cares about his students deeply. He makes you call him "Uncle Bijan" which was very interesting. The lectures are straight from the textbook so they are pretty boring. The class is graded on three tests (including the final).

this class only happens once a week, but the class is long, boring, and frustrating. you won't learn anything. it feels like a complete waste of time. i personally bring coloring book pages. you cant touch your phone or you fail. just 3 exams which everyone does bad on and he curves. dont take this class unless you need it rip good luck

mandatory lectures with exams that come straight from the book. tells pointless stories. makes everything super confusing. if you pull out your phone you will be kicked out of the class and failed. you basically sit there learning nothing and then you go home and teach yourself everything. avoid bijan!!! there are so many other amazing psych profs

uncle bijan is an absolute angel of a human being. he has a very strong personality. if you take a phone out in class, you're dead. he kicked some kid out of the class PERMANENTLY for having a phone. he's strict, but he's SO CARING AND HE LOVES HIS STUDENTS SO MUCH. textbook in class every day, every day is a lecture. he tells a lot of stories.

Uncle Bijan is a nice guy that really cares about his students, however, there are only 3 tests that make up your grade and, each being out of 100 points with a slight curve. SONA credits are 15 points. He doesn't make powerpoints and you need to teach yourself the majority of the content.

At first Uncle Bijan is a lot. He's a character for sure, but he's a great one. The lectures aren't key for the tests, but are mandatory for a grade. You NEED to go to all lectures for an A. The tests are straight from the book and reading/notes are mandatory for passing. You'll learn to love the guy but hate the lectures. Plus, material is great.

Bijan made Psych 160 nearly impossible. You aren't allowed to take notes without getting yelled at, so you're forced to stare at him lecture for over an hour. However, the lectures do not help on tests as the tests are 100% from the textbook. There are only 3 grades, making it very difficult if you bomb one. Stay away from him, not worth it.

Definitely takes pride in teaching his students, but lectures consist of his personal stories and you cannot use the bathroom without being called out. I would stay away as he is very strict with his rules and there are only 3 tests. There are no other grades which makes it hard to do well if you are not a good test-taker.

I don't think that anyone thrives with this type of teaching. We aren't allowed to even take notes, and all of his rules made me feel like it was Elementary school. He was a very nice person, and he seems to care about his students, but I wouldn't recommend taking the class.

For two and a half hours you are listening to an 80+ year old man lecture on love and you aren't allowed to take notes. He's a great guy, and the content is interesting. But that style of lecture wasn't good for me so I didn't do as well. If you function well like that, take it. But if that doesn't appeal to you then I would stay away.

Uncle Bijan's class consists of him telling stories about his life not teaching material. His lectures are hard to sit through without falling asleep, and you don't get much out of going. There are three tests including the final which make up your entire grade and they are tough. The only way to learn is through reading the textbook.
