Comment:
Dr. Facknitz' poetry class was wonderful. At the time of taking the class, I was going through some pretty heavy stuff, which showed in the poems I submitted, and she treated me with dignity trhoughout. Also improved my writing a great deal. Show up and take the workshops seriously and you will love her. Thanks Dr. Facknitz.

Prof. Facknitz loves her students and as a result you will be very unintimidated in her class. Take advanced poetry with her. Poems due every week, half workshop based, half discussion based on the readings. Class is laid-back yet always engaging because this is a small class full of creative students finding their poetic voice.

Really fun class with a family-like feel. Workshops, group work, and poems due each week. Interesting books of poetry to read and discuss. It's very helpful if you're vocal/willing to discuss. No "grades" on poems, just whether or not you tried and submitted. Wonderful class for those who love poetry !

Ms. Facknitz happened to be my freshman adviser and Creative Writing teacher. I really love her! She is a great teacher, very interested in poetry and helpful in providing feedback on your work. She can be helpful with advising during meetings, but does not respond to emails as often as I would like. Inspired me to join Gardy Loo!

Super easy and fun class, definitely one of my favorites. She's really nice and genuinely interested in helping everyone become better writers, but does that through feedback and discussion, not grading. Straight 100's, no exams

I took her online summer class and she was absolutely useless. She did not post on BB, did not answer emails, and never graded on a timely fashion. I did not get my final grade until 3 weeks after I should have. Her tests were very difficult because we got NO feedback whatsoever before taking them. Worst. Teacher. Ever.

she's a nice lady but is a terrible grader. she messed up grades at the end of the semester just because of her laziness and refusal to grade on time. hate her now..her class was so boring and pointless and her tests were too hard and didn't match what happened in class

Helpful in office hrs. Doesn't turn in your work in timely manner. Doesn't provide study guidelines for tests. Specific requirements for papers, tests are very specific (can be difficult). READ and take notes on EVERYTHING if expect an A.

I hate poetry but this class was SO EASY. We literally did nothing/the same thing every class (critiqued each other's poems). Be vocal, don't skip, and you're OK. She is very nice!

If you're serious about poetry or writing in general, DO NOT take this class. Facknitz is totally useless. She has no clue how to lead a discussion or critique, or how to make the classroom a comfortable environment. She may provide you with some good tips one-on-one, but expect to be very bored and frustrated in class.

I usually give professors a good name...Mrs. Facknitz, however, is not a reputable teacher at all. She never returns papers back on time, does not use powerpoints to clarify main points, and her tests are hard considering there are NO knowledgable sources to review with. Also her humanities class is entirely about Ireland, so be aware.

I really wish I had read up on this professor beforehand so I could have seen how impossible this class seems. I had her for Irish lit, and although she seems sweet enough in class, no help was provided and papers were impossible to do well on. Working hard gets you nowhere. Suck up or expect to be ignored.

Professor Facknitz had great advice for improving my poetry. However, if you aren't extremely vocal and one of her favorite students, don't expect an A. I turned in every assignment, got an A/full credit on everything, only missed 2 classes (with doctor's notes!), improved everything she told me to work on, yet still got a B-? Take someone else!

She is a great woman and funnu at times. YOU HAVE TO DO THE READINGS...we had a pop quiz every other tues. Wrote 3 papers the first was 3-5 pgs. the second 5-7 and the third 8-10 (SUCKED)! I was in her Irish lit class..had to watch a movie one a week. The class is okay but I wouldnt take it again!

She was not helpful at all and never returned anything. I had no idea what my grade was, and she always gave random pop quizzes. It was a very boring class and awkward, because nobody ever participated in the discussions. Don't take her if you can avoid it!

Okay course. Was frustrating because you never got quizzes/papers back so it was hard to know where you stood. Pop quizzes every once in a while. Ended up with a B- although I should have gotten better. Somewhat of a hard grader on the papers. If you're in her Irish Lit section be prepared for 2.5 hour movies weekly!

She was consistently late for class, never returned anything, and was entirely unclear about deadlines. She never bothered to grade our midterm or final projects. I was happy with the work I produced in the class, but it had little to do with her.

I thought it was just my class, but I guess she does this all the time. Terrible at getting papers back, then you get SOME at the end and find that you were doing poorly. Never once replied to my emails.A teacher should be working just as students are,but she is lazy. She will probably lose her job at JMU soon.Your grade will not reflect your effort
