he was rude and didn't let you get a second chance if you got a question wrong. he picked favorites and praised them like the other students weren't there. he did a horrible job explaining this and expected you to know everything even though its an intro class. do not recommend him at all. the only thing he really grades is the exams and participa

Do not take this class at all costs. He hardly teaches, leaving you and your group to your own devices. Gives out incorrect information that comes at the expense of your grade. Was very condescending and rude when I asked a simple question over email. If you can, please take another professor for your sake.

I hated this class with a burning passion. Dr. Devore does not know what he is doing. He could hardly answer our questions during lab and would give us wrong information and later dock us points. Online lab was tedious and complicated and usually went way past time. I've cried during this class so many times. It's a nightmare, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

I don't have the words to explain how awful these classes were to sit through. I am not someone who skips class, but I got through about 4 lectures before I decided to teach myself the material. This class is math heavy and it is not explained well at all. He will give you the formulas, but will not explain where to get the numbers. DON'T TAKE HIM

Honestly, I could've taught this class to myself. He gets info from Wikipedia and reads directly from slides during lectures. He changes the formats of the quizzes all the time so grades aren't fair. The material isn't hard to understand, and it's a shame that the grades don't reflect that because of how frequently the quiz format is changed.

Listen to the reviews! Tons of math that's explained poorly, really hard weekly quizzes that take hours. No exams b/c of COVID, thank god, I would've failed. Gets his "notes" from wikipedia and reads from slides. He also randomly leaves during class and comes back like nothing happened. DON'T TAKE. You will teach yourself and still be confused

Rambles and wastes class time making bad jokes and gets mad when students can't finish the experiment. Only gives a lab rubric verbally, and later will mark you off for not doing things he never said to do, but he will claim he did. Will help if you go to office hours but he never gives above an 80. Having him makes it tough to enjoy chemistry.

Dr. Devore is the worst professor I have ever taken a JMU. I am warning you now, DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HIM EVER. I am a 4.0 student and I am averaging 70's. you will want to kill ur self. for the love of god, save yourself and run while you still can

Devore is hands down the most strange and confusing professor I have ever had. Wastes hours of lab time explaining math and by the end of his explanation the entire class is left even more confused than they started. He changes assignment instructions at the last minute and makes you redo all of your work. Absolutely terrible experience

there are easier isci 101 classes to take and id recommend those, but if you have to take him, the A is possible, it just sucks. homework is graded so get ur science friends to check it for you.

You better press the back button now. Devore is easily the worst professor at JMU. He's past his age of retiring, his textbook is Wikipedia, and he doesn't teach. What he shows you on slides is not what is on the test. Avoid AT ALL COSTS. I would say hardest C I've ever earned but I wouldn't know because he doesn't post grades on canvas.

Devore lectures way too much for a general chemistry LAB; he isn't afraid to waste the entire 2.5 hours. He makes most of the report's individual and gives little to no guidance on what the write-ups should contain. It's a general chemistry lab that is treated like it's only for CHEM majors.

Based on the reviews, I was very scared to take it. However, it was not as bad as the reviews led on. I probably went to half the classes and still learned the material on my own. It is basic material, but if you dont understand it, the class may be hard because he does not teach well and his "textbook" is wikepedia. All final grades were curved.

I literally created an account just to make a review for this guy. You can get an easy B with all most all the other professors that lecture this course here. To simply put it, don't take him.

Hands down the worst professor I have had at JMU. He doesn't display competence to teach ISCI 101. He begins the class by explicitly saying that he will be teaching down to the level of a freshman. He copies all his notes straight from Wikipedia almost verbatim. Content not so hard if he would teach or give appropriate resources.

do NOT take Devore. you can dodge a massive bullet by simply NOT taking his class if you have the option. if you are required to take his class (as i was for CHEM 331, physical chemistry) you're completely out of luck. He barely knows the material at all, and his "lectures" are some useless story followed by intermittent powerpoint reading. avoid!!

Do not do not DO NOT take this professor. He is apathetic towards everything he does. Clearly couldn't care less what you learn or don't learn. He doesn't have any type of criteria, he reads off of wikipedia and for practice problems, he suggests we "wikipedia search questions." Just do yourself a favor and don't even think about it. You will fail.

DO NOT TAKE DEVORE! You will hate your life every second you are in there. I took him for an easy gen-ed and I was sadly mistaken. He literally does not teach and his lectures are extremely scatter brained. You are better off teaching yourself. Also the book is wiki... Best advice is to take literally anyone else or take a different class.

Man. Where do I even begin with this professor. He is difficult to understand and his tests are far from easy. You will most likely be pulling your hair at 2 in the morning, trying to understand what he is teaching you. I honestly swear, he said on the first day: "I will be your worst teacher here in JMU." He is not wrong. Avoid taking this class.
