Comment:
Professor Getty is passionate about her job as a speech pathologist but when it comes to teaching her students as a professor, she is terrible. The tests are formatted in ways to trick you which makes them extremely difficult and most of the students reflected getting low grades no matter how much studying. Plus just rude in general when asked ?s.

Don't waste your time. Maybe 25% of lecture is actual learning. Tells too many meaningless stories and is extremely condescending or flat out rude most of the time, esp when students have questions. No reminders and few resources to help; it makes it very hard for students w/disabilities like me. Take it w/a different prof or just teach yourself

Shes very passionate about her field and shes good at teaching the content but when someone asks her questions she seems very annoyed and kind of acts like youre dumb. Shes very condescending. Also she doesnt accommodate to anyone. Also, she doesnt announce due dates so be careful. I would never have her as a professed again tbh shes rude.

Phonetics is a tough course, especially when done virtually. Dr. Getty did a decent job at teaching this class, but I feel that sometimes when students asked questions she would become annoyed. She is very specific when grading transcriptions, so be sure to follow the exact criteria she gives.

Dr. Getty is one of the best profs I have ever had a WMU. She tells a lot of stories from her work as an SLP that really helped me understand the material. She will also answer any question that someone has and go out of her way to make sure that people understand the answer. Would 10/10 recommend!

I thought Laura was pretty awesome. She tested on materials she covered in class; I barely used my textbook. Be careful, though. She doesn't announce due dates, she just relies on students' diligence to check the syllabus. Basically, write down all the due dates and manage your time well and you will be good. I missed the first assignment and paid

Laura's lectures are amazing. She uses lots of examples, her information is always accurate and her stats are up to date. If you ask her a question, beware. She can be very condescending. She has said things like 'This isn't high school anymore,' instead of answering a question. Her syllabus is confusing but she won't answer questions about it.

She definitely knows what she's talking about. She's extremely sarcastic, but in a good way. She's a very tough grader when it comes to papers. She works in the field, so she has a lot of stories that pertain to the lecture that makes things clearer. Overall, she was a great professor and made the class fun to go to.

Laura is a great Professor, she breaks down the information really well and she is hilarious! She shows clips so you have an understanding of how people with different Communication disorders act. Sometimes she has speakers with the communication disorder come in and the work load is not hard. Come to class, fill in the guided notes and study.

Laura is a really great prof. She tells a lot of real life stories to clear up topics and her lectures and guest speakers are interesting. She's strict on wording in papers and when speaking because she doesn't want anyone to be disrespectful to people who have communication disorders. Her papers are all 1-2 pages tops, double spaced. Great class!

Laura is a great professor who loves what she teaches. She works in the field so it's definitely beneficial to hear what she has to say if you're a pre-speech path student. The tests are quite challenging, and she told me that she basically expects everyone to fail the 1st exam because they aren't prepared, so study hard!

She is a working speech pathologist. Which is helpful because she uses real life examples when explaining communication disorders. Also helpful for pre-speech pathology majors because she explains the difficulty of the job as well as all the requirements to enter the field. She is a very positive person and very clearly passionate about her job

I enjoyed this class. She's proud of her speech pathology career and it is great to be able to hear from someone in the field who loves their job so much. I didn't like that she doesn't post grades on e-learning but that was my only complaint. Make sure to check your syllabus! I missed the first assignment and that kept me from getting an A. :(

Very rude and nit picky. Can be ridiculous with test expectations. You cannot write over a given line or you will not get points for the question, so make sure you write small.
