Comment:

I really loved her as a professor for this class. She was very clear on what she wanted from her students and how she wanted work to be presented to her. She gave exit problems every once in a while, sometimes with a partner. Also gives graded homework too. There's a lot of opportunity to do well in her class.

I put that she's a tough grader but here's why- it's not that she's actually tough on anything and she doesn't even check homework even though it's assigned every night. But on tests and graded assignments she will take off on very petty things like not being specific enough, being too specific, or showing too much work.

Comment:

Phillippi was a decent professor and made sure that if you had a question it was answered as best she could in class. Her Student Assistants all knew what they were talking about and were ready to help and had great hours. Phillippi makes conversation out of the class and helps the class learn from other mistakes.

Hard class, great teacher. She is clear about what she wants you to do & what's on tests, you just have to put in a lot of work in order to be able to do it. Go to every class & prioritize it from day 1. If you want to be a good math teacher, take her. She may seem harsh at first but she's a really nice lady (and she brings candy to the final)

Before taking this class, just know that Math 107 is NOT an easy class. Phillipi has an interesting personality that takes a lot of time to get used to. She is really condescending, but if you do your homework and go to class you will do alright. Just don't think the class will be easy.

If you do the work and keep up and ask questions, you will be fine. Just don't go into the class thinking "oh this will be easy" and blow it off, because then you won't do well. Go to office hours and ask the student teachers for help and you will honestly be fine, especially if you have a good grasp on math already.

She is thorough and has a good pacing to her lessons. Lots of hands on geometry activities. Gives frustrating exit problems and 3 hard tests. Good luck. If you put in effort on homework and ask questions, you will do adequate.

There's a rumor that Prof Phillippi is hard. I disagree: she has high expectations for your work because she wants us to be the best teacher you can be. This might be translated as "hard" if you don't put in the work or you don't ask questions. I would definitely recommend her. You will learn a whole lot and it will change your perspective on math.

I was extremely afraid to take this class after reading this site, but it was honestly nothing like I expected. She is NOT that hard. As long as you do the homework and ask questions if you're confused, you will do perfectly fine. Do not be afraid of her!!!

I dreaded coming to class, she's not helpful, she makes you feel dumb for asking questions. No extra credit offered, two tests equal 50% of your grade and the final is 30%, DO NOT TAKE HER

DO NOT TAKE HER. She does not teach anything in class, yet it is mandatory. She makes you feel stupid when you ask for questions. Has horrible office hours and does not meet with you by appointment. Her tests are impossible and even when everyone fails she does not curve and blames in on the class itself not herself.

DO NOT TAKE HER! She moves extremely quickly in class. When you ask her questions in class or during her office hours she makes you feel stupid for not knowing the answer and is not helpful at all. Tests are impossible as well. If you do take her definitely use the student assistants!

This class was very challenging and it was very hard to get a good grade. The tests were very difficult and many of the quizzes were on information we had never seen before. If math is not your strong point then it will be a struggle to do well in the class.She also goes very fast and is not always clear.

She is a tough teacher, but I have definitely learned A LOT from her! It is definitely not an easy class, but she is not as bad as people make her sound. There are lots of graded assignments, and homework is pretty much mandatory! Always read the book when she assigns it!

People get the difficulty of this class confused with the effectiveness of the teacher. She really teaches this topics in the clearest way possible, the class itself just goes against everything taught in elementary school. So for the class she teaches, she does it well. The class itself, is challenging.

She is not awful at all!!! She is soo helpful if you go to her office hours and ask questions in class. She wants you to do well. You kinda teach yourself the material (homework) then ask questions in class. The material in general is challenging so that is why her test are hard. She gives Exit Problems and checked homework to boost your grade.

this is a difficult class, there is just no way around that. Phillippi is not the best math teacher ever, but not the worst either. Tests are hard but she gives a decent amount of group work in class that can help boost your grade.
