Comment:
I always felt really uncomfortable in David's class. I felt like he was always coming on to me and hitting on me in roundabout ways. The class wasn't too difficult, but I just couldn't get over the fact that he always seemed to pay special attention to all the girls in the class.

David is a great guy. He is very knowledgable about the material and emplains it very well. Be prepared to hear A LOT of stories about his life. He loves to tell stories. He likes to joke around with the students as well and makes the classroom atmosphere very comfortable for everyone.

Great Professor! He definitely knows how to critique work without making you feel like you are a failure. He tells you what you can do to improve your photographs. I like that he grades at the end of the class so that you have to improve your photos.

Comment:
David has some "wise words" to say, but I dislike the fact that you have no idea how well you are doing in his class because he does not give you a grade until final grades are posted, and then if you don't receive an A, you have no idea why you didn't. There are only 4 photo profs though, and I recommend you have them all at least once.

David is one of the best profs I have had, and maybe one of the best people I have encountered. Full of stories and wisdom, always has constructive criticism, always in good humor, and lets you go your own way on assignments. I haven't learned much of the technical aspects of photo, but his classes are enjoyable. Oh...and don't expect an A.

My favorite professor at Grand Valley and one of my favorite people. If he doesn't have an effect on you, then you're not paying attention. He has a smorgasbord of things to say, about photography and beyond, so listen up and let this beautiful man shed some of his wisdom on you.

anyone who doesn't like David is not a photo student because i have been here all four years and have not heard one photo student that does not like him. He isn't easy, and will make you think, but will never tell you you cannot do something as long as you can back up you reasons. Cares more for his students that most people realize.

David is by far the best professor I have had, and one of my favorite people. If you take the time to speak to him one on one, you will learn far more, but putting forth little effort will get you nowhere. His life stories are perhaps just as useful as his photo talents. He will make you THINK.

David is a jolly old man. He reminds me of the All-american grandpa. He is really sweet and cares about photography. He is quite critical and believes c's are average grades so don't expect an easy A. I would recommend him, he is pretty cool.

David is a jolly old man and all he wants is for the students to produce quality work. He is probably one of the smartest teachers that I have ever met. He knows a lot about photography from experience and tells interesting stories that help you understand the point he wants to get across. Whoever doesn't like him is crazy and cold hearted.

If you smoke foriegn cigarettes, and hang with him in his office you will likely get a good grade despite doing****e for photo work. Forget about learning anything that will apply to a career in photography. The fine art and philosophy are good; but with no practical knowledge, you will be ill-prepared to be a photographer for a living. Hasbeen!

David is one of the best professors at GVSU in my opinion. He has inspired me, as well as many others, to continue learning about photography. He is one of the most intelligent men I have ever met. Take him if you are at all excited about photography.....everyone who doesnt like David as a professor is crazy.

If you complain about Rathbund, you took Photo as an easy A or an Elective. Photo is harder than most non-photo majors realize. He is, by FAR, the BEST photo prof at Grand Valley. Batzer is a shameful replacement in his abscence. He's a bit to philisophical for me but he always likes your work.

This guy.... I culd write a novel on the atrocities I witness within the confines of hs class room. He consantly touches all the ladies in the class in a border line sexual way and then treats the guys like theyre not there. I advise anyone and everyone to steer clear of David Rathbun. He sucks alot
