Extremely lecture heavy. A lot of information which makes it difficult to know what will be on his quizzes. Clearly does not care about his students.

This class was by far the hardest class I've ever taken. 2 or 3 chapters of material, a quiz or exam, and multiple homework assignments are assigned each week. Very heavy on the organic chem. Lefler is a very intelligent professor, probably one of my favorites because he explains topics slowly and will answer any of your questions.

I was terrified after reading his RMP reviews, but Dr. L is great. He expects you to put in the work required to understand the information. He doesn't do +/- grading, which is great IMO. He held FOUR office hours a week and was very quick to reply to emails. I can truly say that I have a deep understanding of the course material. Highly recommend!

For this class, you had to give watch SO many lectures. Even when you think you have an understanding of it, you don't. It took about 3 days out of my week to focus on it. Aside from the many lectures, the tests reflect the practice exams he gives and he is pretty helpful in-office hours. Would take this over in-person biochem tho

His lectures aren't too difficult to understand, HOWEVER that doesn't mean he knows how to teach this course. The hw and practice tests are NO help on exams. You have to not only memorize everything from lecture, but also be able to think outside the box only on exams. The only reason Im not angrier is because the curve: 43% was a passing grade.

Comment:
Yes this class is hard, the exam questions can be nuts, but everyone in the class has the same exam. Lefler understands this class is hardand that's why he curves the class so much (73% is an A currently). His goal isn't to fail students, it's to teach us as much as he can before we graduate with bch degrees. Go to office hours, he'll remember you.

The professor is not bad. He replies to emails quickly, has office hours and answers and explains anything. HEAVY exams. The only way to succeed TAKE NOTES ON EVERY SINGLE WORD HE STATES IN HIS VIDEOS. The tests are from his lectures, it may not be on the slide so you have to listen, just use the captions when hes talking. You have to work hard.

This class was the worst. He told us to "rethink why you are in college" when frustrated that we didn't do well - maybe he needs to do the same. Instead of helping us understand material, he just applies a big curve, and few students got an A. Way too much memorization of details, not concepts, on exams. 90% of grades are proctored tests.

Worst professor I've ever had. The lecture content is so unorganized, which makes taking notes and learning the material very difficult. Practice sets and practice quizzes are different from the tests he gives. This is unfair to the students. You'll never know where he is coming from with his exams. Save your GPA, don't take this guy.

Dr. Lefler is a great professor. Yes, his exams are hard because he focuses on application instead of memorization. If you attend his office hours, he spends time to make sure that he clarifies things to the best of his ability. However, you have to meet him halfway and do your studying. He is very kind and always willing to help his students.

Dr. Lefler is amazing! He is passionate about biochemistry and explains concepts very well. Everything you need to get a solid grade is available and lectures are presented in an organized manner. You have to put time and effort into the course else you will not do well. He makes himself available to answer questions.

Definitely not as bad as people make it seem, the material is difficult and dense but this is a 400 level class and for a biochem degree this is arguably the hardest class youll be taking in the 4 years of college. You get graded on quizzes and tests but plenty of past quizzes to learn from and you can use few pages of notes during exams.

Honesty I was shocked reading all the negative reviews because I have nothing but good things to say! Yes its a tough class but its going to be tough with any professor, you got to study hard but, Dr Lefler is super helpful if you ask him for help!! Start studying early and dont cram for these exams and you will do good!

Never saw the professor once. Each lab is guided by a TA which completely determines how easy or tough this class is. This class has 6 extensive reports ranging from 10-23 page lab reports but its not as hard as it sounds, theres a lot of data that needs to be in the reports. Also, pop quizzes throughout the course. Zina is an awesome TA!

Your experience in this lab is highly dependent on your TA. Expect to stay in there for 4-5 hours. There are 6 lab reports with the longest being 23 pages and the shortest being 10 pages. The recitation videos (online) were pretty sufficient so no textbook needed. Also, there are 5 pop quizzes (top 3 will be graded). Dr. Lefler was decent overall.

Because of COVID-19 I lost my employment and spent the entire first half of this class tied up on phone lines with unemployment. I studied at most 5 hours a week. The class isn't difficult. You have to read the book and apply concepts. If you can read and have common sense should be an easy A. Dr. Lefler is always willing to help.

Tough class. Tested on material not covered in lecture under "the premise that this is there last BCH course, and we should be able to apply concepts" (to random questions). Ex. TCA test had no questions about the TCA cycle- just a hypothetical scenario. 95% of grade weekly quizzes, midterm & final. Tough grading. Redeeming quality: 70% A

If you can take another professor do it. I'm supposed to graduate next semester and honestly not sure if I am now since this is by far the hardest class I've taken. The only thing worth points are the exams and quizzes and they are worth an insane amount of points and don't cover any lecture material and tests are timed way to short to ever finish.

I took the Session A before my MCAT. The content is HARD and confusing, but Lefler is so willing to help. He makes office hours either online or in-person. He always helped me understand something if I was lost. Never once came across as arrogant. Super nice, super helpful, would take this again. But don't take 2 hard Session A's at once...
