Teacher placed us in groups, where we were able to exchange information, organize information, and make certain vocabulary and reading comprehension corrections. He shared personal stories about how his life was affected by history events in correlation with our assignments.

Be prepared for extremely boring and monotone lectures off of his Kindle!! The class is a snooze, and I feel like you could pass the class by doing the reading on your own. The tests were relatively average and passable, if you do the reading.

John Maynard I one of my least favorite teachers. He was incredibily boring and only lectured the entire time. I was so happy to get out of his class. I learned nothing from him.

He was a good professor. I learned quite a lot from what he lectured about. He does mostly read out of the book. Notes are a very good thing to have because they are useful for his exams. The only problem I had was that he didn't tell us our grade because he was still grading the assignments, like the midterms, until the end.

Very boring teacher. All he does is lecture which sounds like he's reading a storybook in which he goes off topic. Has absolutely no sense of humor or any class discussions. If you're a visual learner and can't follow him talking all day, this teacher is not for you.

California History, was suprisingly very interesting with Maynard! If you just pay attention to the lectures and take good notes, you will have no trouble on the tests. He asks you to read Ramona, but although it was a difficult read, I found it intesting and I loved it! He only lectures but he makes it interesting.

Don't need the books. Just find the unsure stuff online. Almost all of material covered in lecture. Good teacher;can be boring but just listen to his lectures. If you listen and take good notes, you'll do well. Dry sense of humor, but can be funny.

Test are all essay, with short and long essays required for each test. It's an interesting class, and he's a good lecturer. Attend his lectures, then you really don't need the FIVE books he wants you to read. His test study guides are excellent, so google what you are unsure of and save your book money.

One of the best teachers you can have. Really knows and enjoys his material. Gets a 4 on clarity because his handwriting often turns into scribbles. Attendance is kinda mandatory since he tends to go over stuff again in consecutive meetings. He lets his political views show at times, though he mostly keeps them in check. Books are very interesting.

Maynard knows the subject matter well; however, he still has not gotten over 1968 and you won't either, the class was ment to go to modern history but all we did was sat and talked about hippies very boring, but easy, don't expect fast feedback either.

Great Professor! As long as you stay with him on the lectures by taking good notes, the class will go by quickly and you will have everything you need for the exam. I learned a ton about the history of Early California thanks to this class.

Dr. Maynard is cool. His lectures are awesome, not borring. If you take good notes, and listen, you will do well on the exams. There is a mid-term and final plus a ten page paper. Not overly difficult, highly recommend this class and professor.

I would NOT recommend taking this instructor for many reasons! He tells the students to follow the study guides which will help them to do fine on the tests but when you recieve the test it is totally different from the study guide. He does not give out extra credit becuase he does not believe in it. He's test and quizes are really hard!!!
