Dr. V is a great professor. She is a tough professor but you can do it. There were three essays that were the main part of the grade. Simple 2-4 pages each. Two test just for the midterm and final. Zoom lectures were mandatory twice a week. You take her class to learn, not for an easy A. She grades heavy on the writing structure and grammar!!!

This class definitely isnt for students who are looking for an easy A or B. Lots of reading, two four-page papers, midterm, city poster project, and final. Midterm and final include short answer, short essay, and long essay. Lots of information. Make sure to study hard. She is a fair-grader and gives good feedback on assignments and tests.

This teacher is so boring. would not recommend this class for anyone looking to pass with an easy C. Do not take unless you LOVE to read boring long books.

Professor Vivian is a little tough but she is a great professor. I have taken her twice now and both times I feel like a learned a lot and enjoyed class. Expect to do a lot of reading and writing; this definitely isn't an easy A. She is, however, very helpful and entertaining and she tries to mix things up a lot.

Professor Vivian is one of the best professors in the History department. She really cares about her students and their writing. She will help you improve your writing if you come to her for help. Her classes aren't necessarily easy, but they are fun, interesting, and you will leave as a better historian.

Teaching is okay but the grading is extremely hard. Even though you get the answer right, she will say something else and remove points. Papers are tough in grading and exams are even tougher. Don't expect to get an A in this class. I was told by a previous student about it before but now I realize I should have listened to him! I'm dropping her

There was too much reading assigned for this class. It was suppose to be a theme 2 class, but was some what of a challenge due to the history majors in the class. I worked really hard in this class. Read all the books assigned except the Nagle book. There are 2 essays (4 pgs each)& 2 exams (multiple choice & essay). Got myself a "B".

She is a pretty good teacher. Her tests are multiple choice and the final is multiple choice with one essay question. She has three tests, including the final and one essay on a book in the beginning of the quarter. She is pretty easy as long as you take good notes when she is lecturing.

Vivian is a wonderful professor. Her tests are really easy as long as you study the key terms she posts online. She also requires a 1 page paper that uses only the textbooks as sources. Highly recommended.

Dr. Vivian is FABULOUS! She has realistic expectations and though she's not the easiest grader, if you attend lectures and do what you're asked to do, you will do fine. Dr. Vivian is funny and keeps class lively. She is always available to students as well.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Vivian. She helped me craft a paper that I will be proud of for some time. She is very tough in her comments, but only to be helpful and encourage students to improve. She is the one professor that has had a lasting impact on me from the History department. She is challenging, but in the best way

Pics were more distracting than helpful. She would talk about a building and show a pic but then not talk about it again for 10-15 min before mentioning a ruler and putting up a pic of him that seemed unnecessary. She didn't use the pics on her test so we didn't need to know what people or places looked like. Lots and lots of reading. We had to read 4 smaller books and had an option of a 10 pg research paper or read 2 books (one 300+ pages the other 700+ pages) and write 1 paper on each of them

Great professor. She knows her stuff and is passionate about teaching it. She doesn't assign as much reading and writing as the other profs at CSUB, so you have time to explore the subject further on your own time.

Very good professor! Lectures well, maintains interest, very passionate. A little too reading heavy, but this is college so that can be expected. I would take her again for sure, I learned alot from her, she grades fairly and detailed which helped me learn from each assignment. Be ready for a challenge, but take her class!

Nice and helpful, but I have to say, she's a pretty boring lecturer. I'm sorry, but I found it difficult to stay awake some days, and I have a decent grade in the class! To me, history is a boring subject anyway, but she makes it a lot more so. There's also a whole lot of writing for a GE class: 3 essays and half the exams are written mini-essays.
