Comment:
Emling was by far the worst professor I have ever had. She was not very proficient in using technology which bogged down coursework. She was extremely lecture-heavy and would not tolerate any kind of discussion or meaningful argument regarding the course content. Sociology is about discussion and multiple perspectives, the opposite of her style.

She did not seem to care about students. She didn't even bother to learn my name despite the small class size and my engagement in the class. It was a very interesting topic that deserved to be presented with a little bit of enthusiasm.

Diane was a great proffesor, many students did not like her for some reason, although she was always clear with me, a tougher grader but onlines assignments well.

Diane was a wonderful professor. Her lectures were long, but you can take whatever you want out of them. She is incredibly helpful if you need clarification on an assignment. She was the one professor I had that encouraged students to come talk with her and get to know her in her office. Take notes, read the text, and you will do great.

Diane Emling is a very dedicated professor who has a great passion for sociology. She is there for you if you have any questions or concerns, and responds well with e-mails. Her lectures are a bit long, but overall she is very nice and understanding. My advice is to read the book and pay attention in class, and you should fine.

Prof. Emling is an effective educator for those willing to comprehensively consume the course materialsand those willing to ask questions to understand the overarching concepts. Other ratings on here paint a vastly different picture from what I experienced, perhaps due to disenfranchised pupils who failed to do the work to learn the subject.

Unorganized, and did not put in much effort. At the end of the semester we had a large project due, and even though I pestered her for months (in and outside of class) she ended up never grading it leaving my grade at a C when it should have been an A.

She is the worst professor i've ever had. All quizzes are on Moodle, which is nice, but she fails to tell the class WHEN we have them. So basically you have to check Moodle at least twice a day to see if she's posted one. When I e-mail her for help, she always tells me it's my fault for "not listening properly." Nothing is up to her standards.

She is by far the worst teacher I've ever had. Its hard to get your grade back up. You have to read ALL of the chapters given to pass the test/quizzes because they are so detailed. She is very boring, and not clear with her lectures. I DO NOT recommend her to anyone!

She was giving a lecture the other day and literally said one thing and then 15 minutes later said the EXACT SAME PARAGRAPH. Tests are nothing discussed in class, and are about the smallest details from the book. Exact statistics/wording, etc.

I have never had to do so much work for one class. Quiz and essay every week, on top of the readings. Quizzes are much harder than tests, she asks about the smallest detail in the book. I would not recommend her to anyone, if you can take it with anyone else DO SO!!!! She is so unclear with her lectures.

I am nearing the end of my bachelors and she is by far the worst "professor"i have ever encountered. Be prepared for very biased, opionated rants, tests over abstract info never discussed, and dumb down your papers or youll be accused of plagiarism. someone important please read all of these reviews!! Us students are being greatly impacted by this.

Unsatisfied! I'm taking her class through [email protected]. She NEVER test on anything we discuss in class. What she does test on is obscure information from the book-not even key concepts! EVERYONE is doing bad in this class. She recently called us all cheaters & is having us redo ALL of our assignments from beginning of semester. I want my $ back!

She is SO BORING! The class is 3hrs long & she lectures for almost ALL of it! we get a 5 minute break, then she's right back at lecturing. She is not clear on assignments & tells us that the exams will be one way & they end up being completely different. Her exams are hard & questions are worded tricky, like she's trying trick us.

BORING BORING BORING. At first she was very informational, but after a few weeks all she would do was talk about nonsense. Unorganized; never has stuff posted online when she says she will. We watched a few videos, but we have a quiz almost every weekend & a unit test every 3-4 weeks. My recommendation is to print off study guides and lecture notes

Emling is the most boring teacher i have ever had. Class is based on quizzes, exams, and papers. the Quizzes and exams are very hard because the wording of the questions can be difficult. lectures are VERY long and dry. There hasnt been a day that i nearly fell asleep. I would highly recommend taking a different teacher or stay away from sociology

I loved the way she taught this class. YES you have to read the textbook- but she gives a CLEAR outline on what will be on the test. Study those things and you will ace her class. It helps to be in class every day b/c there is usually 1 or 2 questions on the quizes directly from class discussion. As long as you stay on track Soc101 is an easy A!

Be prepared to read until you're eyes fall out of their sockets. Reading is very dry and repeats itself. Emiling is very helpful if you get sick and need time to make stuff up, but be prepared to read, read, READ!!!
