Comment:
Cullather is the most dull & monotone professor Ive yet to have. I literally fell asleep once in his history lecture because it was like he was giving a speech, not lecturing students. I feel like he had unrealistic expectations of students for a freshman level class. This 100 level class was my hardest one of the year, which is saying something.

Boring boring boring boring boring. Only attended the first few weeks of his lectures because the course grades come exclusively from things done in section discussions.

Comment:
Professor Cullather is one of the worst professors I have had while at IU. And this class (the Kennedys) is awful. I am a senior history major and I got a B+, and I actually really liked the Kennedys before this class. Cullather made the course dull and boring. For a freshman level class this course was ridiculous. Steer clear of Cullather!!

It is not so much the professor, but the class that is awful. I mean Prof. Cullather is pretty terrible and I am not saying that because I failed. I got an A in his Kennedys class, but he is an awful professor that has no idea how to lecture. The tests are ridiculous worth 25% each and two papers worth 25% as well. Avoid this class and professor!

Dr. Cullather is a very good teacher, but don't expect this class to be a breeze. All of his grades are the essay tests and a couple papers as well. I enjoyed his lectures and the class material, but don't expect to get by easily in this class.

Professor Cullather was an amazing teacher. I took his class on the Kennedy family and even though it was the first year of the class it seemed like he had been teaching it for 20 years. He is extremely knowledgeable and makes the material very interesting but be prepared to put in the work for the papers because they require a lot of research.

Prof. Cullather is very brilliant. He is very knowledgeable on a variety of topics, and certainly desires to share this knowledge with his students. He is very helpful and has taught me a lot about researching history through personal interaction in the classroom or office hours. Taking his classes is a challenge - so expect to work...a lot.

Be prepared to work hard for an A in this class. Tests are essay tests and require the ability to critically analyze information heard only once in lecture. No study guides are provided, and good lecture notes and attendance are a most. This class is difficult for a 100 level class.

Excellent Professor who is very intelligent. Sitting in one of his lectures is like an hour of story time. They're very interesting. Minimal assignments and tests.

EXTREMELY difficult class! He is an expert but does not simplify it enough for a 100 level class. Everything is fair game on exams, no study guide!

Expert in his field--he really knows his stuff. Class will be very interesting for those who bother to attend. grading is extremely difficult, however, he relies on his ta's for much of the grading, which leads to subjective standards.

Vietnam War, though he is a good lecturer Cullather isn't very accessible. I doubt he knew one of his students names and he had about 5 TAs doing the grading. As well his essay questions are not the greatest in terms of clarity. For example we had to analyze an interview with Robert McNamara and it was one of my least favorite papers to write.

Very interesting lectures, however he's a bit too intelligent for a 100 level class, so unless you really want to work hard, I wouldn't take his class. He also doesn't use the textbook for this course, but 4 boring novels.

Excellent teacher. Some think he grades hard, but I disagree. Simply keeping up with the work will give you an excellent grade.
