Comment:
Had him for CIVE 3203 and 3205. Went to 2 classes, bought a Hibbeler textbook and taught myself for 3203. Went to 3205 lectures. Poorly-structured and incoherent lectures, difficult to follow on his tablet. 3203 midterm and final were fine, but long. 3205 exams are tough, had to use uOttawa notes to learn anything. Struggles to get a point across.

Comment:
Professor Holtz seems like he is figuring out how to teach during his semester. The first half of the course was poorly thought out and hard, but he does get better, with the introduction of pop quizzes and in class help. This is a class where teaching and applying is better than listening and note taking, because his teaching method is abysmal.

Great prof for the course, makes everything very clear and simple. If you pay attention and put in a bit of work, an A is not out of reach.

He's a good professor, he's lectures were recorded and posted so that was helpful for studying. He's a really tough grader so beware of the final. Overall just make sure you study past exams and tests and you'll be fine and you NEED the handbook!

While his lectures are good they do not even come close to covering the amount of material he expects you to know, and his testsexams are extremely long with no part marks what so ever. Study like mad for this class if you want to do well.

Have had a few classes now. On the plus side he posts all lectures (including video of his lectures) online and is quick to answer questions online. On the downside, the lectures are often riddled with mistakes, the exams and midterms will always be impossible to finish, you will find him blatantly arrogant, and he gives no part marks.

He's a bit strange and lacks certain communication skills - but that can be expected of engineers. Otherwise he's very well-meaning and helpful professor. Always puts notes online which is the biggest reason i will take his classes. If you work hard, you will do good. If you slack then he won't like you and likewise you'll come to dislike him.

He is a good prof and really upto date with technology, maybe that's why some ppl were afraid of him, coz he can catch u. He did every possible thing to make notes available. With his notes u dont even need to open the text book, its great.

This guy was definitely very strange, and this was not the most interesting class, but man, this is one truly nice guy. He is very polite, happy, and will get upset if you disturb him too much. He is very friendly and always extemely polite in answering questions. He seems to have gotten some negative feedback below but he doesn't deserve it.

He's not the worst professor ever, but the organization of the already dry material is terrible. The class is horrible, just try to survive it.

HardCOR boring.. the notes have colossal gaps in them, making what is there totally useless. Helpful in person, answers questions thoroughly. He seems a little sketchy in motion and in speech. He either has so many thoughts that he can't gather them, or he has absolutely none. I'm not sure which.

Horribly boring. Is out of breathe by the time he walks across the front of the class which are less interesting than watching paint dry. Watch out for the ****tits!
