We had two professors for 465 and it got to the point that when people came and saw Berman was lecturing for the day, there would be a mass exodus from the classroom. Seems like a good guy though, just horrible at teaching.

this guy has got to be the worst professor i've ever had. total genius but awful prof. does not care about his students but if you study hard, you'll end up with a much better grade than you thought you were going to get. honestly still not sure how he graded our class.

Comment:
Knowledgeable to be sure but clueless when it comes to teaching. He completely abuses his tenure to continuously screw over his students (provides no grades, not even after the semester ends apparently). Impossible to follow his train of thought in lecture. Exam questions poorly worded and gets sassy when over half the class can't understand it.

Very nice and helpful. Dr Berman loves talking about virtually anything. You can learn a whole course worth of history in one conversation with him! Very knowledgeable man.

Comment:
Lectures are completely idiot. The only comfort is looking around and seeing the faces of everyone else that is as lost as you are. Berman does not have the communication skills to lecture or assign homework. All of my efforts are focused on deciphering his lecture notes or assignment specs. Nobody has any idea what is going on.

He stammers a lot. He is very confusing. Changes the conversation whenever a question is asked. He seems lost most of the times. Never returned the homeworks. Took only 1 midterm. Everything is open book.

Doesn't respond to emails, ever! His lectures are terrible, although he is very smart. Homeworks almost always have errors and are often incomprehensible. Good luck to all who have him!

Try avoid this guy......the only good part is his class has almost no programing homework. Also, google the homework before do it. most of the time the homework has errors in it so find out and fix them before actually do it.

I had this guy over 15 years ago. He was horrible then. I hear he's still horrible. I specifically went on co-op to avoid him for 465.

"So so so so", the reviews here speak for themselves. Totally incompetent professor - over half of the class dropped early. Other professors in the field were unable to understand the homework. Avoid at all costs.

This was one of the most frustrating courses I've ever taken. Berman's lectures were difficult to follow, and homeworks were impossible. We never used the book, and he didn't really work from notes, so there was nothing to study. The class was disorganized, and grading was not very fair. Avoid Berman if possible.

Not as bad as you would think (based on his reviews). I did pretty well on the homeworks, they just take about 4 hours out of your life. If you go to office hours, you'll be fine, he usually just gives you the answer. Don't go to class, it's a waste. Read the book and hope you do good on the exams.

This class got monumentally harder when Berman took over 2/3 the way through the semester. He was impossible to follow and decided to teach material not in the book for a while so there was no way to supplement his ramblings. Worse teacher than Goldstine.. at least you could use the book with him.

Dr. Berman is a super smart man. MIT Ph.D. Very knowledgeable. But just because he is toooo smart, he sometimes cannot understand the heads of normal guys. You cannot blame him. He is always trying to help, but you cannot catch him most of the time.

I was taking this class, completely confused about everything he was trying to teach. After horribly failing the 1st exam, and after losing interest in the material, probably due to his teaching method, I walked out of his class and dropped it. I changed my major since then to EE, so I never re-took this course with any other prof.

Can't believe this guy is still teaching. One class actually petitioned successfully to have him removed, he was so bad. I was a straight-A student who got a C in his class. No partial credit for wrong answers. Ridiculous test questions that had no relation to material "taught" in class. I'll never forget or forgive how he soiled my GPA!

So so so so so, this guy's stutter is r-r-r-ridiculous. It makes him even more incomprehensible than his accent already makes him. Not entirely with it. Nice guy, but****ty teacher.

Horrible. Clearly has no clue how to relate the information to students. Should quit teaching and do research.
