Basically, you have to follow the prof's personal views if you wish to get a good mark out of the course. He also seems to be an inconsistent marker. I did well on my first 2 papers, but when I followed the same scheme for the final paper, it was considered to be poor and lacking detail!

Is the most biased left wing prof I've had at waterloo (and I'm in poli sci so I've had quite a few) however since I am biased myself I agree with most things he has to say. The work load however is pretty intense. (3 essays the shortest being 10 pages)

Difficult to communicate with at times and can be very boring. On the other hand, I did enjoy seeing a fresh perspective on economics - instead of all the same BS we are taught and never questioning it. Made me see economics through a new perspective. Although I agree he is not the best prof.

Comment:
Starts his 28 page course outline with "it takes more...entrepreneuship to write a good essay than run any business". This guy has obviously never left the academic world - a typical left-wing "penseur" who's never done an honest days work. I dropped this class (first one of my entire uni career) after reading the course outline. The arrogance..

Worst professor at the university. He is old enough that he was a personal confidant of Adam Smith. Does he even know what century we are in. Neoclassical is a new phenomenon in his books. Someone needs to blow up his ivory tower. Aviod at all costs!!!!!!

For an intro. class he assumes you already have basic knowledge from highschool. Challenging. If you do the readings it will start to make sense.

This man is a jerk. Unless you agree with his far, far, far left-wing politics and version of "economics", he won't give you the time of day. A classic example of a left-wing bigot.

This course is important and should be mandatory for anyone majoring in econ. People who do poorly in this class are those who refuse to question theories that have been spoon fed to them, or those who can't write a paper worth anything.

The only people who don't like Needham are idiots. The man teaches with passion and conviction. He will not grab your head and twist it so you can see the light, but if you watch which way his hand points, he can help you see it on your own.

easy course,do the readings, provides a new view to economics, you will learn a lot, lectures kinda boring, ask him to watch movies (he agrees), spend some time on the essays, they're graded fairly tough, good class, pay attention and have an open mind
