Very witty, quick minded, truly brilliant. I took classes from him ten or so years ago and I am still in awe of his intellect. Go to class, take notes, complete all assignments, work hard, really hard, and you will do well. I think he genuinely cares about his students.

Overall a good class although you ABSOLUTELY have to watch three 1.5 hour long lecture videos that you MUST take notes on. There is a test every week but they are pretty easy as long as you took good notes. It is very obvious he is passionate about what he does.

Super hard! He is very nice and knowledgeable. I learned so much, but I spent 250 hours in one quarter on the work!!

I enjoyed this class even though its not a subject im very interested in. Lectures were very time consuming but provided you with all the information needed to do well on the quizes. The three required papers were doable. I would recommend this class.

A lot of work for a gen ed class. Extreme grading on essay questions, of which there are two each week. I do really appreciate his enthusiasm and I learned a great deal, but it is a difficult balance for someone with a full time job/full time school schedule. I've never gotten less than an A in my life and this course had me worried.

Overall the class is okay for an onlince class. If u watch the videos and follow along w/ the powerpoint you will do pretty good on the weekly quizes. No midterm or final. Just one paper broken down into a few hmwrk assignments and a few other hmwrks. Quick @ responding to emails. Tough grader. Passionate!

I took the online class and spent more time listening to lectures than I did in any of my real classes. He is thorough to an extreme. He will subtract points for menial accidents like an unnecessary capital letter. watch out. Boring, scrutinizing, and too time consuming for a Gen Ed class.

Lazy? Seriously? I don't know about you but I worked my ass off in two of his classes and got Ds in both. I get As in all my other classes, can you explain that? Bottom line, Hemphill is a failure as teacher because he loses over 75% of his students in every gen ed class he teaches. I'm sorry, but that is utter failure of the professor not student!

Dr. Hemphill is a difficult professor, yes. But is exceptional. Whether or not he requires an exceeding amount of effort (from both his students and himself) you benefit immensely from his instruction. Granted, sometimes it can be hard/stressful to condense what he has taught you, you know no matter what tat you have learned from him. Thank you Dr.

Dr. Hemphill is brilliant, but he's an impossible instructor. I see these + ratings for his online course, but I got news for you, try his in-class sessions. You think you'll do as well? Beg to differ! He's impossible and he's taking the department down by pushing potential majors out!

Greatest, most helpful and passionate teacher out there! This was my first online class and I was in his office more than any other teacher I have had. He has tons of experience and stories to share. Even if your not an anth major take his class, he is freaking amazing. He has high standards but what else should be expected at a university.

Very passionate about his material, and tries his best to relate it to students. Alot of work, 3 1 1/2 hr lectures online per week followed by a quiz each week and also 3 papers to write! Not the hardest class, but definitely not a piece of cake!

I took brian for my theme 3 class. Nearly everyone in this class failed, due to his horrible manor of teaching. He's a great person, perhaps should go through the credential program one more time.

Dr. Hemphill as a person is great, and he's brilliant, but he is way too hard.I've taken some of the hardest professors at CSUB and passed with A's every time, not with Hemphill. At this juncture, he needs to be attracting students into the program, not weeding average to good students out. He's killing the program and taking the department down too
