Sean is such a nice and funny guy and is really caring towards students by making due dates pretty flexible. His lectures are interesting and the readings are great too. Be careful with this class though because he is a hard marker so keep that in mind if you're not a strong writer. Highly recommend this class! Super interesting and great prof

Prof. Gouglas is definitely a tough grader. I average about an 85-90% on essays usually and received a 78% on the essay style midterm for this course. The course is very content heavy and they expect students to know the content down to the last word and if it isn't cited correctly you're in for it. Participation requirements are excessive.

They have changed the syllabus this year so the course has became much harder. If you are not confident with your writing skill then definitely avoid it.

Sean is so great. Like, I like a few video games here and there, but I am by no means a Video Game aficionado. Saying that I actually had lots of fun in the class. He made the content understandable and told several amazing dad jokes. He actually takes your feedback and applies it too! He's a pretty chill dude

He was an amazing professor and the class wasn't too easy or too difficult, just right. He also makes the lectures incredibly entertaining and informative. You can tell he genuinely cares about his students and class.

This class isn't so bad. Interesting and easy if you are into video games (I'm not), and still very doable if you aren't. The assignments are generally straightforward and very easy to do, however his final is interesting.... very lecture heavy and plus you have to attend class to understand his final exam. But class is a bit dry and boring...

Watch all the STS 351 lectures 2 days before the midterm/final, take notes, review terms. You'll be fine. Prof Gouglas is hilarious.

Took this class because I thought having an online course would reduce my coursework and stress yet this is the complete opposite. Videos are super dry and convoluted and require readings are long and difficult. Overall annoying course.

Don't take this class just because it's online. It may kill your GPA, so not worth it. People say this class is easy, but it turned out the worst course I had taken at university.

His class makes it seem like you're watching a comedian because he loves the material he teaches so much. Very loose deadlines, nothing was "due" until the last day of classes, which could be helpful for some people but not so good for others. Very helpful with helping you understand assignments and material. Overall amazing prof who is woke af.

This is an online course where the midterm is worth 50% and the final is worth 50%. Each exam has 60 MC questions. This will be a fairly easy course for you if you play video games. Some of the exam questions were unreasonable - ex) name of author of a specific article

STS 350 is the in-class version of STS 351, and I'd say it's definitely better to take it the way I did. Basically the structure was group project (making a text adventure game), group presentations (based on lecture videos/readings) and game design exercises. It was a lot of fun and worth taking. Very relaxed environment.

The best way to study is to download the video subtitles on coursera and copy them from notepad into Word for notes. Go through these notes thoroughly because every offhand remark is testable. Qs for readings are fairly straightforward, know authors for the final. Use the forum for class q's not his email. I did fine despite never gaming. Fun!

He's a really nice guy, really helpful if you ask him questions. I cannot blame him for how dry the course was and the tests were pretty difficult. Knowing all the games is hard when you have never played a video game in your life.. Readings are tested a lot so don't skip them thinking they wont be tested.

I think Sean may have forgot his email password? I've heard from more than 1 person he doesn't respond. Video lectures are brutal to watch. My biggest mistake in life is taking this class with this professor. please don't make the same mistake.

Sean doesnt respond to emails, and it's hard to get help for this online course since you cannot just go to his class. He is NO help. This is not an easy class. This is the worst class i've ever taken in my life. It is so boring and the lectures are so long. The readings are brutal unless you like history on games.. please dont take this class

Videogame course. 5050 midtermfinal split, all MC exams, final cumulative. Meh. Material can be philosophical for the first half of the course but makes more sense in second half. Readings are longtedious, and it sucks not having any notes (have to take your own). Final had many questions about "who said this.." and "what was first game to.."

I really enjoyed this prof! He tried to make the class interesting by getting us to read four fiction novels and a weekly article. Exams were basic, participation/attendance was extremely helpful and if you enjoy Canadian history I would take it with Gouglas, one of those old-school profs who still wears a suit to work everyday
