The grading is very easy for this class. There are some surprise papers that you must be present in class lecture in order to receive credit for. You are expected to write a 2 page weekly for class discussion, but the grading was pretty as long as you completed the paper on time. The tests are pretty easy, just pay careful attention to the wording.

Has a lot of stories, but tells them over and over and over. Material seems common sense, and he says that only the big picture matters, then tests on specific numbers that are different in his lecture compared to the book. Easy to skip class and still be fine, most lectures seem to sound like the same.

Extremely inconsistent teacher with his lectures vs. the textbook and real time. Exams are easy but confusing at the same time, as there are often no clear and concise answers. Easy class, but not easy to receive an A in.

Doc can be a very confusing professor because he teaches us information from his research findings that often varies from what you would find on the internet or in the textbook (he doesn't write his own book). For example, he told us the number of NCAA teams participating in D1 athletics, but both the textbook and the NCAA's website had different #

Great Professor! he really makes his lectures fun to come too, loves to tell stories about his past that relate to the material and Interacts with his students. The material is interesting but you will be writing lots of papers and discussion sections are mandatory attendance. And all the FOSSexams are online so take good notes and should do fine.

Doc's a great guy but not a great teacher. He talks about himself alot, but at least in AAADA-264, it doesn't detract from the material. What detracts from the material is the material itself, as it's often self-conflicting, vague, and clearly just copied-&-pasted off of Wikipedia of the like. Tests are multiple choice and weirdly worded, but easy.

He teaches the importance of networking, which is an absolutely critical skill to have so this is a vote in his favor. However, he lies about who he knows and recycles powerpoint throughout every class he teaches at IU. This was the easiest course I've ever taken and it was always fun cause everything he says if pretty much a lie. Dont buy the book

May be the most arrogant person I have ever come to know. Talks about himself the whole time and all his connections which dont exist, while teaching absolutely nothing. He stresses making connections which is very true, but we all know that and the class is a joke beyond that. Its a crying shame a class like this is offered at a IU, ZERO value.

Doc is a HORRIBLE professors. Nice guy, but a HORRIBLE teacher. He is very vague and confusing. He changes his mind about his "research" every class. All he talks about is himself and his connections (which aren't even that useful). Waste of class and waste of time. I will not take one of this classes again. Also, HORRIBLE test writer.

Definitely an easy class. Kind of annoying and tedious at time, but interesting nonetheless. Weekly two page papers are almost always opinion based and super easy, and the tests aren't terrible as long as you do the study guide.

Doc was great this semester. I came down with a bad illness and he was very accommodating and helpful. If you are interested in the history of sports or African American history, this is a great class to take. Coming to class isn't required but it is recommended. DO STUDY GUIDES! Doc was sincere and passionate about this class. Overall great prof.

This class is worthless unless you become best friends with Doc. He makes up relationships with people to seem more interesting and popular. Students generally pay no attention in class, if they even go. He commonly goes over the same slides on multiple days. But remember, Sports is a Microcosm of Society.

EASY A! Do not buy the book. He wrote it but you will not use it. I didn't crack it open all semester. Class is boring- most people don't go and don't need to. Tests are often very awkwardly worded and confusing but it is still an easy A

If you manage to make it into his inner circle, you're home free. Like he talks about, he's all about connections and networking so if you connect with him, you shouldn't have a problem with this class. Volunteer when you can and don't expect to get much out of the class. Other than that, the material is basic and self-explanatory.

Talks about himself the whole time and who he knows. And he cusses frequently in a way to connect with the students. At first, I didn't have a problem with it but now it's been overdone and is extremely unprofessional.

Don't buy the book... he only requires it because he wrote it, and doubtless makes a bundle off the sales. He never lectures over anything important, but rather talks about how awesome he is, how hot his wife is, and how perfect his son is... we get it doc... you don't have to rub it in. really easy tho if you can manage to say awake. A+ doc!

This guy teaches at a 3rd grade level. Talks about who he knows even though, he often has never met these people. Brings in speakers for their benefit of trying to sell you their product. You learn nothing in this class and he is very unprofessional. Def not why I pay 40K to attend IU. Luckily, there's Kelley!
