show up to class!!!!! pop quizzes, and all his notes are on the board. kind of messy, take good notes! exams are close to his practice ones, do them! easy if you pay attention and write notes. hard to sit through, not a captivating lecturer. that being said he is really nice outside of class, try sparking a convo to make it more enjoyable.

I had Professor Graves for an online summer class. He didnt post materials on time. He didnt follow his syllabus. He only posted 2 discussions. He rarely answered emails and if he did it was a long time before he answered. His grading was inconsistent. His whole class was a headache. I dont recommend any take his class.

Professor Graves is awesome!!! He gives great explanations in his lectures and he is super nice to his students. This is my senior year and I only took this for credits, (finance major) but he was great! Make sure you go to class, because it is all based on his lectures. He also gives quizzes randomly, so go to class! Exams you get a cheat sheet.

We never got feedback on our essays, just our final grade. Didn't really follow the syllabus so you never really knew your grade. It ended up being fine, since I got a good grade. But for a few weeks I had no idea if i was passing or how he was grading anything. I don't know if I recommend him but he definitely wasn't bad. I liked his personality.

I would not recommend this professor. His notes are all over the place. You can't miss any class since he won't post anything on moodle. (not that big of a deal) For every other class he allowed students a sheet of notes for his exams, not mine though.. The midterm is ridiculous without a sheet of notes, and I'm a 4.0 student. Avoid. Nice guy though

Condescending! He had the nerve to nonchalantly refer to me as a "mediocre" student to my face, even though I carried a 3.79 GPA, and now own a multimillion dollar business. Unless you major in philosophy and have to take him, I'd avoid Dr. Graves. Plenty of professors in this department run circles around this guy without the superiority complex.

He is a good professor but sometimes he doesn't explain things very well and this can lead to some rough quiz scores. I used the book because it had extra practice but the explanations are best understood through class. Cheat sheets are allowed on tests and help so you don't have to memorize all the fallacies or formulas.

Prof Graves explains well. I rented the book but didn't use it. He gives fallacies of the day and great notes on the board. He doesn't post anything online, so you need to go to class to get the notes and to really understand. Good at answering questions and also available outside of class. Get to make "cheat sheets" for every exam too!

I totally suggest taking him. Don't have to do the reading. Need to show up for lectures and take awesome notes. All you have to do is show up. Ask questions and he will explain. Not too much of a workload. I didn't even read the textbook. Keep up with his lecture & show up to class and you're good. Gives weekly quizzes just on lecture stuff. Easy!

He is a great professor and really cares about the information he is teaching. He gives pop quizzes about once a week, they are pretty simple but sometimes catch you off guard. He gives practice exams before every exam that are almost identical to the exams. *allowed a cheat sheet for every exam* (piece of notebook paper front and back)

Professor Graves is a really relatable and funny guy. He made the lecture-heavy class enjoyable and is very aware of his students progress. This class is difficult to understand and material cannot be self-taught. Go to class and do the homework (even if its not for credit) and you will succeed.

Comment:
Professor Graves assigned readings from the textbook, but rarely did his lectures match the book; typically, he would talk about an entire different topic. Fine lecturer, but got off track often explaining useless, unrelated information or allowing student discussion to be wildly off topic. Grade was based on two papers and a midterm and final exam

Paul explained the material clearly and was always willing to go into more detail for a confused student. The workload was totally manageable, his tests were not overly difficult and graded fairly. It was easy to see that he's passionate about the subject and cares that his students not only get a good grade, but understand the material.

I took this during the summer, listening to him lecture for four hours twice a week wa rough. Because summer is a condensed semester, the reading material he assigned us was overwhelmingly impossible. Study guide questions provided for exams. We were allowed to bring in a double sided cheat sheet for the final. Def would recommend taking him.

Professor lacks teaching when he teaches most of the students in the class are lost as he does not explain on what he is talking about His lectures are quite boring and it doesnt make sense other professors in the school have at least a power point for clarify this is a intro class he treats this class as 300 philosophy class. Would not take!

Took this class for a Gen Ed. I think if I had any other prof I would have been lost. When I didn't understand the material he was always willing to help for as long as needed. Great guy, very helpful, and actually cares about his students. Would recommend him to anyone, even if they aren't going into this field. Good for formal reasoning Gen Ed.

Graves is a very nice guy but I just can't for the life of me get a grasp on the information presented in class. Basically, if you don't go, you'll have no idea what he's talking about so definitely go to class! He's a great guy and tries to be funny and make students interested, yet if you're not into PHL, you just won't be interested.

Often times I've found him to contradict many of the conventional views of a philosopher subject. Very nice guy though. He is interesting, though can be tangential at times.

He's a good professor, but wouldn't personally take with him again because he was quite boring. His tests weren't that hard, but if you skip class it would be difficult to pass. Didn't use the book at all, don't bother buying. Just go to class and take good notes. He also gives pop quizzes which I found very pointless.
