Whole class is based on the premise of four papers. There is a complete lack of structure. She goes on tirades about useless material that has no value. Arguably the worst professor that IU has to offer

DO NOT TAKE C105! Prof. Cook is, without a doubt, the most confusing, boring, stubborn professor I have ever had. The class doesn't have to be this way, I thought it sounded interesting at first. But she is just that bad. This ruined my enjoyment for anything remotely related to science. Avoid at all costs.

She was truthfully the worst teacher I have ever had. 95% of the lectures are spent rambling on slides that have no importance to the course. No one in the class has any idea what is going on. Syllabus was incorrect. Grade was entirely based on 4 papers, she waited until the last week to hand them back. Graded 20 15pg final papers in one day (how?)

This class is the definition of a train wreck. Papers were assigned throughout the semester, yet were only returned for revision during finals week. I would say that she should probably retire soon, it would be the best choice for her and students that have to deal with her absolute nonsense. Do not take any courses with this professor.

Her lectures are completely unorganized. She shotguns massive amounts of information at you and then tests over completely random tidbits she skims over. After taking the first test, I realized I had an equal chance of success if I just ignored everything she said as I did listening to her dull ramblings.

The most boring, unclear professor I've had during my college career. She's so smart yet has no idea how to teach. If the course had been structured better, students could get more out of it. However, we had 10 papers and 3 tests along with hours of reading. The entire class feels kind of like a fever dream.

Prof. Cook is extremely intelligent and quirky, but her teaching style and materials are outdated. The information she presents in her lengthy, disorganized lectures is often confusing. The book is cool but you have to write an essay over complex, long medical articles each week. Not mad I took it, but would't suggest it.

The TAs are the ones who do the grading so it helps to be on good terms with them. Attendance is mandatory. She seems off-putting and cold but if you talk to her she's not that bad. The tests are iffy as a lot of the questions are things only people interested in medicine would know. Good class if you are interested in the subject.

Comment:
Dr. Cook is clearly extremely intelligent and therefore her lectures can be very hard to follow, as she does not simplfy language often. The tests are very specific and difficult, but luckily there's a really big curve typically. The book and readings are all very interesting. The lectures are unengaging, so full attention is needed.

DO NOT TAKE DARWINIAN MEDICINE. Prof. Cook appears to be a very nice person, though the class itself is completely outdated with teaching technique. she rambles on for an hour and fifteen minutes, i can not follow what she is saying for more than 2 sentences. she uses very complicated vocabulary to describe the simplest things. super hard exams.

Really boring. Icy and unapproachable, uses ableist language in lectures. I honestly couldn't tell you anything she taught us because all she did was show us google stock images and rant about barnacles and how her entire family died from strokes. Don't take this class.

I really like her & even though she goes off on a lot of tangents she gives you a ton of good reading to pursue outside of class if you're interested. There was one required book that we read in the beginning of the semester & assigned other books to read throughout the semester, but they were all at the library and only one person read each book.

Della Cook is a wonderful professor who is incredibly knowledgeable and caring for her students. Those who have rated this course negatively were probably expecting a blow-off course; though you definitely have to read and use your brain to deal with the medical journals in her classes, it's worth it. I learned so much just from lecture. Recommend.

Della Cook is extremely intelligent, passionate, and invested in students' success. Often weekly readings/writings were required, but if you're easily overwhelmed, she is willing to fudge the due dates. Beware: she's a huge rambler, but everything she says is pretty interesting.

Extremely knowledgable. After years I still go back to my notes and the way she taught her class. It was amazing. However - You have to go to every class and you have to be interested in the subject.
