teacher means well, tries to help students but in class it is so hard to focus when he teaches, class somewhat follows the lines of teach it yourself.

Horrid teacher. So glad he's quitting. An absolutely useless dullard. The course material he teaches is so convoluted, it's impossible to understand anything. Avoid if possible for Spring '09.

Don't understand the incomprehensibility comments here - he was great. His lectures could be dry, but they were easy to follow and made sense. He's also very nice, and as others have mentioned, lenient as far as grading goes.

Hard to understand at first but after taking a few courses with him (including the CS capping course) he's grown on me. He's a fairly easy grader and is lax on due dates. You will be rewarded if you make the effort - even if your grades aren't stellar. Weekly quizzes and tests are tough so you want to make damn sure you know the material.

Nice guy, tries to help, but just can't bring his knowledge down to a student's level. Every 5th word is "uhhh, errr, ya know". It's tough to weed all of this out and grasp what is actually being taught. He does give a break on grading, and does have all of the lectures and assignments on a website for easy veiwing.

He is a terrible teacher. You have to be a mind reader to know what he is talking about. All of his classes are the same, confusing and a waste of time.

umm, what can I say. He's a nice guy and is very smart, but sometimes has trouble explaining things. His code that we had to use for assignments wouldn't work or would be impossible to understand. Once you get used to him the class isn't bad. Workload is ok, just expect a few all nighters

It was a challenging class, but none of the challenge had anything to do with the professor. The material was somewhat difficult, but Ten Eyck knows his stuff. His teaching method is a little bland, but I take what I'm given and do the best that I can.

He is bad, makes course work needlessly difficult. He knows his stuff but has a hard time getting it across to the students in the course. Takes the harder route to code some things... and he hates FOR loops for some reason, always uses WHILE loops.

Had him from 89-93. As others said, he says um a lot. But he knows his stuff and is a good teacher. You need to pay attention and need to want to learn. Don't take his classes if you just want to get an easy grade.
