Prof. Sutcliffe writes the best exams I've ever had. You are given multiple problems to choose from so if you aren't strong in one area of the course, you can choose a different problem to do. And he adds lots of bonus (though usually hard) questions. Yeah the course is a lot of work, but I wish I had him for other classes just due to his exams.

Although he is a very nice guy, he isn't the best teacher. Beware of his midterms, in which he will include information that seemed to come from no where. Also many of his assignment (which he claims are easy) , include terms that seem to be not existent anywhere but in his head. Also, don't take this course unless you know C. Mistakes were made.

I wouldn't recommend him as he isn't actually good at teaching the material. He's very smart and knows what he's talking about, there is a difference between knowing the material and being able to teach it. I think he's been teaching the class too long, he constantly makes mistakes during the lecture to the point where I don't trust the notes.

Sutcliffe tells many stories and talks a lot about things in the math world which is useful for building a perspective of its applications, but lots of bad jokes. Compared to other sciences (chem, phys) the workload is moderate-high, but the assignments are necessary. His exams are very fair. Super available in his office as well, great for 1-on-1!

Like some of his other CMPT courses, this one was very similar. Assignments & labs are manageable but sometimes be tricky. He reuses his old notes in the lectures and there is quite a lot of content in them for this course. Exams are typical Sutcliffe exams, no study guide but you can choose which questions to answer. Overall not terrible.

Sutcliffe has been teaching this class for too long. He no longer connects with the material and instead arbitrarily copies his old notes and hopes you can keep up. His stories of his previous smart students and family are discouraging and take time out of classes. He is a caring older Bill Nye type, but successfully turned me away from loving math

There's a lot of stuff that is covered in this course so be prepared. Don't miss the lectures. The assignments may be difficult or long sometimes but he is an easy grader. Take lots of notes in class and read the textbook too. (Amazon rentals is a great way to get the textbook for a cheaper price)

As far as calculus and math professors go at Trinity, Sutcliffe is a really good choice. He allows you to use graphing calculators on the exams which help a lot and he also gives bonus questions on each exam. The only downside is that there is a lot of weekly homework assignments (I recommend to use a website called Slader to help you through it)

Honestly, I could pass his class skipping all lectures and studying soley with the textbook and online source. His explanations are difficult and twisted, unorganized and at times unnecessary. Exams are much easier than the assignments or the problems introduced in lectures.

Sutcliffe is a great Calulus prof. Unlike the other profs, he allows you to use a calculator during the exams which is a huge advantage to checking your work! He also explains concepts very well and if asked a question will try to explain it in a different way until the students understands

Prof Sutcliffe understands math very thoroughly, but doesn't always explain it very clearly. However, he is willing to re-explain it and do some examples. He gives lots of homework, but these are harder than the exams to prepare you for them. He always has a story to tell: ask about when he got 400% on an exam.

Study from the pretests they are lifesavers. If you need help ask and use his office hours. Take notes and put a lot of effort into studying. Don't waste your time on the assignments but do well on them. Overall you get what you put in. I improved quite a few letter grades from my first midterm to my second and final by putting in more study time.

I had both math 123/124 with Sutcliffe. He was my favourite prof for my first year. Although the material is boring, his jokes make the class a bit more bearable. As long as he sees that you're putting in effort and showing up for classes he will give you the mark he thinks you deserve. I did really well in these courses. Great prof!

Too much work for one semester hour. Complains about having to take so many courses on and really doesn't care about the other profs or his students. Thinks he knows everything and is really frustrating to try to talk with about courses.

Good prof if you like his jokes/tangents, if you don't like them, use them as a chance to let your brain catch up with the material. Not amazing one on one, but decent.

NICE MAN & V. Smart. However... Prof S cannot read the class's level of understanding. He wants everyone to see the board but he doesn't see the students. If the class does poorly, he says it's a "statistical anomaly after X years of teaching" We're not statistical anomalies, we're people and our struggles are real. Way WAY TOO Much Material.
